Good post RaginSam ! Glad someone else is speaking up about these legit concerns for the next BF game, and I hope more will do the same. Maybe you should also post this on the Battlefield sub-Reddit to gain more attention. I promise you, there are many others who feel the same.
I love Battlefield games and want to see them be successful. I've played them all except Hardline and that space one, 2142. I even played the free one until it shut down. That's over 20 years of playing these games! I think I've given EA and Dice enough money over the years to be able to voice my concerns and criticisms.
I was recently talking about this with some of my BF friends who fear the same for the next BF game. I ONLY play Battlefield, but they say COD and some of the other FPS games have been ruined due to aim assist being so crazy OP, and we're truly afraid Battlefield will end up the same way. You're already seeing it somewhat in BF 2042. I've posted this in the past, and I'll say it again, and again, and again. If Dice has to give console players special treatment to help them compete with PC players, then why even have cross-play with PC to begin with? When you give one player base 'features' that assist them in any way, you're basically giving them legalized cheats. And let's be real here, that's exactly what it is: a legalized cheat. And I don't care what the reasoning is, that's unfair to PC players. Some may say it's not as OP as you think, or that it doesn't really help much, but I say that's not the point. If it's there for you, and you're using it, it's a cheat. And we don't call that a skill, we call that cheating! If Dice keeps those special 'features' strictly between the console platforms, then cool. Let them have at it. Just don't allow all that ridiculous nonsense (aim assist, less recoil, and whatever the hell else they get) against PC players. If console players get M&K support, which I hope they do, then that's all they should get. No special 'features' of any kind because they play on inferior hardware. Dice needs to make the game fair, and I guess to do that, it should be input-based matchmaking. But that may not be foolproof either, as some may find ways to work around that, I suppose. And if so, a ban should be in order.
I personally do not care about cross-play due to the network-related issues it causes in BF 2042. I prefer BF to go back to its roots and separate PC players from console players and let them play against each other. I even have a few close console friends who feel the same, except they simply don't like playing against PC players. It has worked for all previous Battlefield games, and if the game is good, filling servers won't be an issue without cross-play with PC. I understand some may want to play with friends who play on different platforms, and I totally get that, but if cross-play causes the game to run poorly, then it would be best not to have it in the next BF.
And the several leaks that I have seen of the new BF game were all on consoles. I haven't seen a single leak that was on PC. Not to say there haven't been any, just that I haven't personally seen them. After realizing this, one can't help but wonder if they are getting mostly console players in on these playtests, and if so, why? Maybe it's a good thing, if so.
