But wait Tom Henderson was 90% sure BF6 would not support last gen consoles. Haha.
As of end of March 2021, there were 109 million PS4 users and 8 million PS5 users. (rough numbers)
If BF6 came out now and did not support last gen, they'd only have a base of 8 million users to sell to and that small starting base could very well mute the success of the game.
So from a sales perspective, EA will be smart to include last gen support if they release the game in the near term. Otherwise if they leave last gen out, they better wait to release the game when the PS5 installed base is much bigger.
It will be interesting to see which path they choose. I'm all for the game only supporting next gen consoles, but I'm pretty sure that will mean a delayed release.

I’m not sure what to expect tbh. They announced yesterday they’re taking full advantage of next gen consoles so they are using every bit of power next gen offers.
@Forkbeard84 Well it was Tom who said it’s now confirmed last gen as well, but no source stated. The problem with all of this is there is no official word about it which is frustrating. I just want to know what leaks are junk and what’s solid.
It makes sense to use last gen but the thing is it’s going to be like porting an Xbox One X game to an Xbox 360. If they’re taking full advantage of next gen can you imagine how bad the last gen version will be. Especially if it also caters to the non pro PS4 and Xbox S.
- 5 years ago@CarbonCarl I agree and think the last gen version would probably be terrible to play compared to the next gen version. The only reason for EA to support last gen is to increase their potential buyers for the game. I would vote to delay the game release, focus on next gen and release the game when the installed base of next gen consoles will support sales. It will end up being a much better game without having to tack on last gen support.

We already know last gen can support 64 players so I imagine last gen would just be the standard that Battlefield has been since it's inception. What I do worry about is that we'll have a situation like we had with Battlefield 3 where maps were designed for last gen and for the main version they just add a flag or two and call it conquest large.

Support for Linux kernel would be appreciated
