I love the idea of a cold war gone hot scenario for a Battlefield game. However I think 1991 would set up the weapons to be too similar to previous entries. I like the idea of the era being set in the late 1950s or early 1960s as there are aircraft and small arms that have rarely made appearances in any tactical war games from this era.
However 1991 being the year the game is set in, in a post ww3 scenario where the cold war went hot in the 1950s or 60s would allow the developers to make unique weapons and technology, imagining a world where the space race occurred differently, many technologies that never developed in our timeline or developed much later could be included such as quadrocopter drones, caseless ammunition, augmented soldiers all set in a world not quite apocalyptic but post nuclear war. Perhaps have it be set with the major powers being nations who were the least affected by the previous world war, South American, Middle Eastern, African, and South East Asian countries dominating the world after North America, Europe and much of the Asian Soviet regions, China and their populations were devestated now ruined and considered third world nations with ecosystems recovering but still largely harsh for habitation.
Anyway it seems this is not the game Dice is planning on developing for the next entry. But Im glad im not the only one who has thought about such a setting.
