I believe it has its reasons behind the fact that many countries in the world actually ban all the Communist symbols, so EA would get in trouble in these countries legal-wise for having it available in the game and even if the reasons aren't legal it would still result in customers dissatisfaction. This has affected some other games from other developers around the times as well, such as how General Winter got censored on Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed : http://en.sonicscanf.org/news/general-winter-modified-censored/

So yeah, sorry for the trouble but it has its legal reasons behind it I believe.
