BF1 -Friends offline even though they are playing
Friends are showing offline in BF1 even though they are online playing. Don't have the same problem in bf4.
Is this a known issue and if so whats the fix?

I've had this problem too. I just reboot my PS4, or ask them to.
It occurred when I had my online status set to "Offline" (invisible to other players), then switched to "Online" while in the BF1 menu. I had to reset my PS4 and it worked fine after that.
Also, if I put my PS4 into Rest Mode from the BF1 Menu, I'll get on later and it'll show my friends still playing matches, even though they are not. I just quit that game and restart it at that point.
