Having the same problem here, bought the game a few days ago, haven't had an issue with any other game, though BF4 keeps crashing on the dxgi_error_device_hung. I had issues running BF3 as well, and gave up on that one, though the pretty trailers for this game sucked me in.
i5 750
P55-UD3 motherboard
HD 5870
8gb RAM DDR1333
Samsung 250GB EVO SSD
Everything is running at stock speeds, good clean case, running noctua fans and big cpu cooler.
So I have tried.......
1. Did a - reformat, reinstall of Win 7 64 bit.
2. Went through the 2hrs of getting Microsoft updates. (insert sad face here)
3. Put the latest beta AMD drivers (13.11 beta 9) on. (have also tried the latest release drivers (13.9 I believe, though same issue))
4. Fresh install of BF4. Got the new PC update today.
Constantly crashes with this error, I leave all the graphics settings on auto, I usually get through the main intro on the campain, and even got to play the first level for 3-4 mins once and shoot some bad guys, though dropped out again. Checked my GPU temp straight away and was running no hotter. Stress tests fine, maxes out at 75 degrees celcius, which from what I understand runs quite cool for a 5870.
I'm quite confident it's graphics related, because if I adjust the graphics settings manually in the game, in generally doesn't even get as far as the intro screen.
Quite frustrating and dissapointing EA. It shouldn't be this difficult. Just glad to see I'm not the only one, though seriously thinking about taking the game back as I can identify the conflict it is having with my machine.
If you have an Nvidia card, update your drivers to the latest BETA's, they fixed this problem for me completely. I have a 650ti Boost and not one Direect X crash since updating. Hope this helps, others have tried it and it's worked for them too
