BF4 FPS drops to 0

Hey all,

been having an issue in BF4 where my frames will drop to 0. Originally it was only happening in certain places ( for example anytime going underground to b in shanghi). recently i added a third gpu and the issue is happening all over now.

My Rig:

ASUS Rampage V Extreme
Intel Core i7-5960X OC 4.2 GHZ
CORSAIR Hydro Series H105
CORSAIR Vengeance LPX 16GB DDR4 2800
SAMSUNG 850 Pro 256GB
EVGA GeForce GTX 780 Ti Classified K|NGP|N Edition 3way SLI
EVGA 1600W PSU
Thermaltake Level 10 GT Snow Edition
ASUS ROG PG278Q 144Hz + ASUS VG278HE 144Hz + Dell U2412M 60Hz

Im wondering if the issue has anythign to do with the vram as the 780 ti only 3gb and running everything on ultra (msaa x4) at 2560*1440 may be causing issues....

any help is appreciated!

  • Yes, possibly. You could configure the settings to use way more video RAM than you have and this would cause significant performance issues as the next fastest memory to be used is your system RAM which is multiple times slower than dedicated VRAM.

  • Hello

    Here are a few solutions.

    • Refresh or completely uninstall and reinstall the driver for your video card.
    • Check for updates your Windows.
    • Delete the configuration file settings of the game. (My Documents--- folder Battlefield 4)
    • Reinstall the game.
    • Make defragment your hard drive.
    • Clean your PC with the help of these programs. (AdvancedSystemCare, CCleaner)
    • Can also help you to reinstall Windows.(It's your choice!)

    Good luck.

You can also use a third party GPU monitoring app such as Afterburner or EVGA Precision to check if your video memory is being maxed out at your settings.

After doing some testing last night with GPU-Z looks like the vram getting maxed out was the issue. After lowering the MSAA to 2x vs 4x the issue disapeared. Hard to beleive that its getting maxed out by BF4 but my footprint without the game is fairly large 780MB...

    Thank you for the help!
