BF4 will not launch plugin-free & crashes after attempting to join server

@Simcra01 If you did not run it as admin or you had  web pages or programs like origin or steam etc open it will give  false errors. If you did it fully correct and the windows scan fails to fix it then you  need a format.

Edit... the crashing when trying to join server is a whole other can of worms we will deal with if need be after this.

@Simcra01 Have you tested BF4 yet to see if it will load and if it will not load any error at all?

EDIT: Additionally, after repairing game in origin, crashes still occur. Game will launch through Firefox when battlelog plugins are installed but crashes immediately after attempting to join a server.

@Simcra01 Ok look in your add and remove programs if you have the BF4 web browser plugin installed then uninstall it and reboot your PC and test BF4 again. I am thinking you still have a plugin installed in your PC and this is making a conflict to why plugin free is not working for you.

If it still crashes then try all this please in order posted but test BF4 after each step please...

This should ensure that no programs on your PC are interfering in the background.

Below are programs known to make issues in BF4

Disable Mantle if you have it and try Direct X, Turn OFF Anti-Aliasing Deferred in video card settings in game. If you have page file turned off then turn it back on as this can make errors even with 32gigs ram.

Others have said if they uninstall MSI Afterburner issues / crashing is stopped. So if you have this installed remove program and test BF4. Also look at other programs as Asus Game First Service...ROG Game First , Razer synapse, Razer Cortex, Qualcomm Killer Service , Fraps, EVGA Precision, Geforce experience, be sure to turn off the streaming function that is enabled by default ,Raptr, RivaTuner , ASRock eXtreme Tuner, Steam, Skype, aero ,Overwolf extra program in teamspeak and xfire are known to make issues as well. And I am sure more programs not in my list yet turn one off at a time and test BF4.

Uninstall the HD Audio Driver from the video card driver install add/remove programs. This silly thing makes issues in BF4 for some. Reboot then repair BF4 to be safe.


If all this fails to fix it then try this...

C:\Users\your PC Name\Documents\Battlefield 4

BF4 folder in my documents holds game configs and screen shots even if BF4 is installed on different drive. When you uninstall BF4 it does NOT remove this folder. So when you install the game again you can still have the same issues. Even if its not a new install it is still worth trying as the game cfg could be mucked up.

1- Go to my Documents and remove BF4 folder place it on your Desktop for now.
2- Be warned you do have to set up your in game settings again.
3-Repair BF4
4- When done go test your game. If it fails reboot your PC and run repair game again and test BF4.

Attempted all of the above, nothing worked. Also tried reinstalling BF4 from disk and then updating it, still no success.

EDIT: The screenshots I took previously are all with the battlelog plugins uninstalled, they are irrelevant. For some reason I can not use plugin-free launching in any browser.

@Simcra01 BF4 should only be reinstalled via origin as  the CD will  not install what you fully need. Even after updating via origin it could / may give problems. 

Edit.... I will look around more for you and try to find your PC the correct fix.

Downloading 30GB would take me about two full days and use half of my allowance. I have a 4Mbit line.

@Simcra01 Fair deal I fully understand :] Was thinking on this more and came up with a few ideas to do off chance but it is worth a try....

First make sure you have plug in free turned on... in battlelog click on your profile then on next page click on Edit profile. Then under General tab make sure Game launch is turned on ... Green showing hit apply test game.

If this fails you could remove / uninstall  Chrome and fire fox and down load new versions , after  you uninstall both browsers reboot PC then install new browser you want as default and again make sure plug in free is turned on in steps above. 

I will try this, but I don't see how this will fix it. BF3 still works with battlelog web plugins and BF4 does launch with them, it just crashes after saying that the server has disappeared. After turning on plugin-free game launching BF3 and BF4 both refuse to launch and say that an update is necessary. I think this is a battlelog bug.
