Heya
I have resolved a very similar issue with another player and have a few suggestions:
1. Run Origin in Admin mode and test the game.
2. Install the EA app instead of Origin: https://www.ea.com/ea-app-beta
3. Close origin, navigate here: "C:\ProgramData" and delete the origin folder. Then run the game.
4. Disable backup/sync software such as OneDrive.
The cause of this particular bug is an issue with permissions when the game is unable to access the setting file's location in Documents.
As such when the game fails to read saved data it just acts as if it never existed.
1. Didn't make any difference to launch as Admin
2. The EA app didn't even recognize that Battlefield 1
3. Deleting the folder didn't change anything either
4. I don't have anything like OneDrive activated
So far, no solution works for me :/

Ahh wait my bad I missed the part about steam. (you can uninstall EA app)
I may have to double check some things.
Navigate to the exe locations of origin and BF, right click them and open properties.
In the compatability tab tick the "run this program as admin" and hit apply.
Right click your start menu icon and open command prompt (admin)
Type in:
dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
Then hit enter and after do the same for:
sfc /scannow
If the scans fail let me know.
If the scan repaired something restart the PC and check for windows updates.
Then try the game out.
If it fails could you provide a Dxdiag and a screen shot of event viewer like so: (I will check over your system for related error codes)

How to in my guide here: https://tiberiusmoon.github.io/Tibs-Guide-to-Troubleshooting/

The scan said it repaired some stuff, restarted but there weren't any Windows updates or anything like that when I searched.
My Windows is in Norwegian, so I don't know how helpful this screenshot is.- 4 years ago
Click feil, kritisk and advarsel in the Plus boxes to expand them.
The little arrows pointing up to the right of the grey bars can be clicked to help expand the above mentioned.
Also, some games don't like unusual keyboard characters or non standard english characters in your windows user name.
