Can't join server together with friend (on same internet connection)
Dear readers,
my girlfriend finally got Battlefield 3 through the Humble Bundle deal. I have the BF3 limited edition with premium access and (of course) all expansions. Both our games are updated properly, all ports are forwarded and punkbuster is ok. Neither me nor her do have any issues when joining a server.
However, if she joins a server and i try to join on the same server, i always get a "can't connect to server"-error (don't remember exact message at the moment). If i join a server first and she tries to join to the same server, she has the same issue. If one of us joins on a server which dropped this error message before WITHOUT the other one being on the server, it works without problems. The issue only exists when one of us is on a server and the other tries to join. Again, please remember, there are NO issues when one of us is joining alone on any server! So no, it is not punkbuster, it is not port forwarding, it has to be some other issue.
By the way, we are both in the same room and our internet connection runs through a cable modem. Maybe because of the cable modems unique ID we can't join both on a server, because the same ID seems to join twice? I seriously have no idea ☹️
Any help will be greatly appreciated! She runs Vista, i am running Win 7.
If you need any further information, just ask for it 😉
Thanks in advance,
Michael
This is most likely a router issue, a problem in your network setup. Simply upgrading your router firmware might do the trick, otherwise the following guide might help:
UPnP - Router:
1. Log into your modem / router.
2. Turn OFF UPNP.
Turn off PC UPnP Service:
1. Press: Windows-button (the one between lAlt and lCtrl) + R, a window should pop up.
2. Write: "services.msc" (without the ") then press enter.
3. In the list of services, scroll down to "UPnP Device Host", click it and press "Stop service".
4. Now do the same thing but with the service "SSDP Discovery".
5. Exit the window and go to control panel-> Network and Internet-> Network and Sharing Centre-> Change advanced sharing settings (to the left)-> Under "network discovery" select to turn off network discovery
6. SAVE CHANGE
