Change settings and cache location on PC

On my PC, the SETTINGS and CACHE of Battlefield 4 are being saved on "C:\[USER]\Documents\Battlefield 4\" (or something like this; it's saving to my Documents folder to be short).

Note, this is ONLY the settings, cache and etc folder. My whole game is installed on D:\ORIGIN\GAMES\BF4\.

Question is: how to MOVE the SETTINGS folder (the whole folder and its contents) to another location, be it another drive or another folder like C:\BF4SETTINGS for example?

I'm asking this because my whole Documents folder is being synced with OneDrive from Microsoft (using Windows 10). So every time I load a new map or new patch or new content, I need to wait for OneDrive to finish syncing all the new files and folders on the BF4 settings folder inside Documents, because it eats all the bandwith while syncing.

Thanks,

Leandro

  • OneDrive should as standard sync the entire documents folder. I however believe you can set it to selective sync and choose what folders to sync, you then need to sync everything besides the settings folder and I think that will accomplish what you seek.

Hi Carb, thanks for the reply.

Yeah I tried that, only thing is Windows 10 now deletes the local files and folders that I choose not to sync with OneDrive.

They still exist on the "cloud" but not on my local Documents folder. So my only bet here is really change the location of the Settings folder to another drive/folder.

    Hey @Carbonic

Thanks a lot for your reply. Yeah I didn't try the SymLink option because I think that would work just like a regular folder. So I went with the Policy option to limit the upload bandwidth of OneDrive and marked that as the answer.

On another note, I was using Mantle as my renderer, and THAT was basically the culprit here. Everytime the game launched a new map, it would add to a CACHE folder in the BF4 Settings folder.

The moment I changed it back to DX11, that wasnt an issue anymore because now it's only changing a few bytes in the in the settings files and not creating huge 60+ Mb files of Mantle cache.

    Best regards,
