Battlefield 4 and Hardline have both been present at LAN events without this issue. People that hold LAN events are usually good at setting up networks so this issue doesn't happen. It's not really something that should need patching as the game doesn't do anything wrong.
I partly agree with you, not everyone is good with setting up networks...
It's like the OP said, we paid twice the game and have to do some tinkering to our home network?
I find it rather disappointing, that it doesn't work straight away... 😕mileysad:

Well, all solutions I've mentioned is just things I've seen other people report have worked for them. The root of the problem is usually that users have setup a network with a bothersome NAT firewall or picked a ISP that placed you behind a NAT firewall.
ISP's typically does this because they don't have enough ipv4 addresses for all devices on their network so it's a problem that will go away by itself when ipv6 is fully implemented in all networks and games. I've heard of gamer couples paying their ISP for 2 dedicated IPs to solve this problem which is indeed damn annoying.
