Could SSD be causing memory leak/FPS stutter?

My friends Battlefield has become unplayable recently, he has the following build.

Intel i5-750

4GB Ram

7850 AMD 2GB

Kingston v100 SSD 64GB

Windows 8.1

14.4 AMD Drivers

720p screen

He was getting frequent frame stutter (or memory leak), crashing at the end of every round and during too. This was happening on Mantle and DirectX.

So I formatted his computer, rolled back to 13.12 AMD drivers, put all his settings on as low as I could.

It was working flawlessly for a few hours on mainly domination maps. We switched to 64 Man Conquest on Shanghai and the memory leak returned.

His SSD is ancient, could that be the issue? I can't seem to work it out.

He used to be on a 6950 but upgraded to a 7850 to fix the memory leak issue associated with the 6xxxx series card, he's never really been able to play this game properly ☹️

Even an old SSD is very unlikely to be the cause of a performance problem.

If you could post a link to the Dxdiag file from the machine we may be able to advise on steps to take.

Ok I keep seeing this issue crop up and I estimate 98% of the time there is one over riding similarity in the users set-up

    WINDOWS 8.1

I run Windows 7 a true PC OS not some hashed together do everything OS like 8.0 and 8.1 and have never had this memory leak issue I know your not going to like what I am saying but I believe this whole issue is down to WIndows not AMD or DICE

  • I'm thinking of reverting his rig back to Windows 7, it's a shame there's such a performance difference between the two ☹️ We're talking 10-20fps leap when you switch to Windows 8.1
