Direct X Error 'GetDeviceRemovedReason'

Hey! I've been searching the web trying to find help with this problem but everyone seems to have different solutions for it, and none of them have helped me so far. About 5-20 minutes into to game...

I have the same problem with my graphic card Nvidia Geforce GTX 660Ti - Directx function " GetDeviceRemovedReason" failed with DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG: Device hung due to badly formed commands. GPU : NVIDIA Geforce GTX 660TI, Driver: 32018. Only in Battlefield 3 !

    Hi Everyone,

    I believe through some other testing I've doing (due to errors in Bioshock 1 & 2, Live Movie Maker, etc.) that I may have also found the solution to this problem, which I was also having.

    Can someone please test removing the Windows update KB 2670838 and let us know if the problem continues to occur?


    What is significant about this update is explained on this page:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2670838

    I believe that this may well be the solution.  Since making the change, BF3 hasn't crashed yet but one person with success does not a successful fix make 🙂

      I don't know what OS system you guys are running on.. 

      I've had this problem for a few weeks different dx errors and stuff.. 

      Its not EA's, dice , nvidia and Ati's fault .. 


      Before doing something crazy with your system and gpu.. check if your OS, and GPU driver is up to date.. 

      I didn't really think about it but when Win8 wasn't updating and no notifications were given to me about updates I manually updated my OS though the control panel.. and My games, BF3 , MOH WF and Crysis have been working normally.. no problems it was just a common maintence issue.. 

      From what I can think of when the GPU is updated.. and the OS is not both are going to conflict with each other.. 

      So .. UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE it will save you alot of trouble..

        This is not the slightest bit true.  In fact, quite often, hardware manufacturers have released faulty drivers (not pointing any fingers, I can't think of a single manufacturer who has NOT).  Microsoft have released updates for Windows that have created issues (case in point, the one I just posted).  Please, don't try to talk about things you actually don't understand.  It is misleading to people when they are actually trying to find a solution to a problem.

        I'm running the latest version of the Geforce drivers, Win7 sp1 updates, VC++ runtimes, .NET (and updates), audio drivers, and yet the problems with Bioshock and other things weren't fixed until I REMOVED a Windows update.  Most people have already tried all this rubbish about "get the latest XYZ".  I think out of the HUNDREDS of postings I've seen about people being told to update drivers/Windows updates/whatever, I can count the number of times that that has been the *actual* solution on one hand.
