I've been having the exact same problem for months now. Crossfired 6970s
So far I have tried the following to correct the issue.
- Windows 8.1
- Went back to Win 7 Ultimate
- Running only one card
- Swapping Cards
- Cleaning out drivers with driver cleaner, installing the latest.
- Running older drivers
- Custom config files
- Disable desktop composition
- Running as admin
With no luck so far. These suggestions about underclocking and overvaulting your graphics card are crazy with the only possible reason why it would work is heat related. Which is weird considering only BF4 causes the issues, played the entire Bioshock infinite game without a single crash at much higher temps (hot day) than what BF4 has been generating lately. I'm refusing to buy a new graphics card for one, single buggy game which has had constant problems since the beginning.
Open to other suggestions though, going to try capping FPS at 60 to reduce the chances BF4 will chuck a hissy fit and crash. Does anyone from EA/DICE even provide suggestions here? Seems like just a way to shove users into a forumn in the hope they answer their own problems or give up.

The support from DICE and EA for this "dxgi_error_device_hung" is the worst since the dawn of gaming history!
I think the ea-moderators should DICE draw attention to this topic!!! There are really many players with these issue.
At least an statement from DICE would be desirable!!!

Much easier to ignore I guess and force customers to fix... other customers problems.
