Thanks for all the replies. The connection problem eventually resolved itself.
However, now I have an entirely new problem. Immediately after the game boots up, and I see the initial menu screen, the game becomes completely unresponsive and I can't go anywhere from there. I can still move the mouse, but clicking on menu items does nothing. This has been a problem for the last couple weeks. The game is no longer playable. Not sure whether to discuss this in this thread or start a new one.
