Some People reported that they have  this issue with outdated versions of Windows XP.

What version of Windows your are using (and what level of service pack are installed)
Have you downloaded and installed the latest Windows updates and critical patches?
What default language are you running Windows in?

Try updating to Service Pack 3 and installing any critical patches. Make sure you reboot when you are prompted to.

Get sure that u are using the latest version of Origin: www.origin.com/download

Then add Origin into windows firewall and anti-virus software's white list, direct to folder C:\Program Files\Origin Games

Please let us know if this helped to solve your issue by accepting as solution. If not, just reply and we can look for other possible workarounds!

    Cheers

This did not work. I have Windows 7 and it has been happening for weeks now.  I've tried all the typical things, reinstall Origin, run as Administrator, disable UAC, put in compatibility mode.  Same error 7049:408 everytime

go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Battlefield 3 make sure BF3 is NAMED BF3.exe if it is called bf3.exe_DiP_STAGED remove the _DIP_STAGED part then try the game if that doesnt work try the repair tool after you remove the _DiP_STAGED

Completely remove origin and Bf3 from your PC run a program like Ccleaner also once you have removed origin https://help.ea.com/article/manually-uninstalling-origin [help.ea.com] have a look and see if there is anything left see link.

once your happy after running Ccleaner etc and restarted a few times reinstall origin running as admin etc then try installing BF3 again.

    also you can try :

right click on the desktop shortcut for Origin,,

go to properties > compatibility tab > check off run as administrator > apply

and restart origin..( i restart whole pc just in case) and try again and let us know what happens.

    run this version https://download.dm.origin.com/origin/beta/8.6.1.39/OriginSetup.exe

I followed your instructions exactly and still received the error.

I then proceded to install from DVD (Limited Edition) this worked but when it goes to download the patch it gives me the Error 7049:408

I tried to repair and update and both give me the same problem.  Is there a way to manually download the latest patch outside of Origin?

    i had the same problem.

    1. remove origin from pc

    2. put in bf3 disk

3.instal the old origin from disk

    4. instal the game itself

    this worked for me 😕mileyvery-happy:

Finally. Figured it out. Found a comment somewhere that Error 7049:408 indicates some kind of program interference, for example, Firewalls, etc...

Checked my firewall settings and Origin wasn't even on the list, let alone given permission to pass. I simply added it to the list, and hey presto.

To help you fix the Origin Error 7049:408 we would like you to follow the steps below:

    1. Please open the Origin client.
    2. Then select "Application Settings" from the menu bar on top.
    3. Then scroll down on the "General Tab".
    4. Under "Origin Beta Participation".
    5. Check the box for "Update to the beta version if available".
    6. Close down the Origin client.
    7. Reopen the Origin client and the latest Beta Client will be downloaded.

Once these steps have been completed you should be able to download or patch your game without the interruption of Error 7049:408.
