Failed to join server. An unknown error has occurred.

Same here, from Germany and none of the servers works.

Well I for one are fed up of this, I can't join the server that I PAY FOR, this is unacceptable and I expect some sort of compensation.

Why don't you give info about connection problems in bf1 home page.. I mean when you start BF1 ... give us info that there is problems to join server... It's not acceptable that you don't give any info there... 

How do I cancel a server and get a refund?

I'm having the exact same issue, however I am able to join operations and official servers, it only seems to be unofficial player-rented servers that I'm unable to connect to.

2 hours past by, still no go, are you sure people are working on it?

I've had this problem for over 24 hours now. How about some more information on what is causing it and what you are actually doing about it to get it fixed? And why no ETA? Surely you must have some idea what the problem is???? This is crazy! Hardly a good advert for us shelling out more money for BF V! Why don't EA have contigency plans in place for this sort of thing?

I saw on EA's twitter that there would be a server reset. Can someone confirm that the server is online and the problem has been resolved?
