Game disconnected: Client closed down connection.

Hi All,

Just a quick question, hear me out before replying.

Edit: This is on PC

I try to join games and get this error: "Game disconnected: Client closed down connection. Check your network connection and make sure that port 3659 (UDP) is open."

Now yes, the obvious thing, is to check that the port is in fact, open. It is, and other people on the same network as me, are able to play the game just fine. The other odd part is that I can connect to other servers just fine, and then try to join this one again, and it works. However, it's annoying to say the least due to the fact that I've not seen others have this issue (Had a quick check but found nothing concrete).

Anyone else having/had this and able to offer some help? More than just open the port I mean.

Try this on your internet modem / router and let me know if this solved your issue. It helped my internet connection at home a lot.

    1) Log into your modem / router
    2) Turn OFF UPNP.
    3) Turn off PC UPnP Service
    4) Press: Windows-button a window should pop up. Write: services.msc then press enter.
    5) In the list of services, scroll down to UPnP Device Host click it and press Stop service. Now do the same thing but with the service & SSDP Discovery
    6) Exit the window and go to control panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Centre > Change advanced sharing settings under network discovery, select to turn off network discovery then Save your changes

Please also enable the following online ports on your connection:
    TCP: 53, 88, 3074
    UDP: 53, 88, 3074

For specific instructions on how to open your ports, please visit http://www.portforward.com/ or contact your router manufacturer.

  • I'll give this a try and let you know how it works. Though I'm a bit perplexed due to the fact that the PC behind me, connected directly to the same switch I'm connected to, has never encountered this issue!
