Game disconnected: Client closed down connection make sure...port 3659 is open.

I keep getting disconnected after just a few minutes of playing BF4 multiplayer.  I have opened all the specified ports and also used port forwarding software.

This has only happened since the most recent Spring patch.  This really seems to not be a port issue as I've followed all steps provided by multiple solutions including opening all those ports and using port forwarding software, etc.

There also seems to be a forum with similar complaints.

I cannot play the game until this issue is resolved, quite frustrating.  This seems to be a patch issue...

hopefully the upcoming server downtime will fix, kind of doubt it though

  • So sick and fed up of this error now, I can't even go 1-2 games without it happening. Really disappointed nothings been done to solve this, as it's more than just a handful of players that are getting it if you read around the net. If I could have a dollar everytime someone says to forward certain ports...

It's actually frustrated me so much this evening, I uninstalled my game and don't plan on coming back till theirs a fix.

I have the same problem.  I opened the listed ports in W7 and the router.

Having to open that many ports points to a major bug that it seems they can't figure out since there is dead silence about this bug.

still getting disconnected after a few minutes of gameplay:

Game disconnected: Client closed down connection. Check your network connection and make sure that port 3659 (UDP) is open.

    so frustrating

Still happening to me, even after the recent scheduled server maintenance. Fix the product you sold me EA/DICE.

Just started happening to me. Never experienced it before  and have been playing since launch. All started after I loaded the latest battlelog. not sure if coincidence or not...

How about even acknowledging that this support thread exists EA? You can be sure that if this doesn't get fixed, I will make sure I nor any of my friends ever spend the $100 for your games and "Premium" *. Sure doesn't feel premium to me. I payed a premium though, that's for sure. Thanks for taking my money and not providing a service!

  • after all of this didn't work:

    • -reset the winsock protocol (TCP/IP) https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/299357 [support.microsoft.com]
    • -changed to new model router
    • -flush DNS
    • -forwarded mentioned port. verified it being open using PFportchecker tool
    • -disabled hardware firewall of router
    • -disabled windows firewall
    • -repaired
    • -uninstalled/reinstalled game

EA customer service told me to:

    • -use smart port forwarding software
    • -update Punkbuster
    • -supply traceroute, DXDIAG and msinfo32 files to EA customer service.
    • -call ISP because of issues found in traceroute file regarding "0.0.0.0 IP adress servers". ISP said there was nothing they could do. (others in this thread have even changed ISP and it didn't solve the problem)
    • -disable origin in-game
    • -Use Internet explorer
    • -clean browser cache
    • -reset IE settings
    • -install newest GPU driver
    • -use CCleaner
    • -install newest direct X
    • -install newest NET Framework:
    • -install newest Updates für C ++
    • -Clean Boot (and manually enabling pnkbstrA service) http://help.ea.com/de/article/how-to-clean-boot-your-pc/ [help.ea.com]

after all this still the same error. called again. EA told me to create a new user account. srsly...this has gotten ridiculous some time ago.

i will wait until windows 10 and do a fresh install (others have done OS reinstall, and still the same problem, so i don't have much hope)

i played hundreds of hours without problems but after the spring patch this error began and NOTHING HAS CHANGED ON MY PC SETUP otherwise.

they seem to ignore the problem exists. and i can't even email them since they only let u call or refer to answerHQ

also see this thread with 83 pages (!) of ppl with this same error http://battlelog.battlefield.com/bf4/forum/threadview/2955064774418606083/last/post_2955064795155988483

UPDATE: the error appears 90% less often than before. it may be because of the clean boot.

however it has nothing specifically to do with the port being open or not since this was the case all the time now.
