Heavy stuttering/freezing after July 8th Patch

I ran SFC and no errors were found.

Also I used Display Driver Uninstaller and removed all traces of Nvidia before performing a clean install of 340.43. Afterwards, I resized my desktop and set the refresh rate to 60htz (from 54htz). I started the game and, after a promising start, heavy lag started after 25 minutes or so.

Ok good windows is not the issue so it is now off the table :womanhappy:

Lets work on the video card settings next to either fix or rule it out ...

Nvidia control panel go to Adjust image settings w/ preview check off last one use my preference and set it to Performance if not already.

Next go to manage 3D settings program settings tab add BF4 if not already added.

make sure all this is done #2 specify the settings for this program...going to give you my settings to see if it helps lol as I am a FPS freak lol..

Ambient occlusion - not supported

Anisotropic filtering - Off

Antialiasing -FXAA - not supported

Antialiasing   - Gamma Correction- ON

Antialiasing- Mode -  OFF

Antialiasing - Setting -none

Antialiasing -Transparency - OFF

CUDA-GPU -ALL

Maximum Pre-rendered frams - use global settings {3D app..}

Multi Display / Mixed GPU acceleration - set what you have as I game on 3 monitors mine is multiple display

Power management mode - Prefer maximum performance

Shader Cache - ON

Texture filtering area next 4 down first- ON, second - global allow, 3rd - high performance,  4th  - ON

Threaded Optimization - Auto

Triple Buffering- OFF

Vertical sync - OFF

Under Display change resolution in NCP make sure its set to 60 Hz

Test BF4 again after doing settings see if this helps at all. What do you use to show FPS in game? 

Sadly Lag can come from many areas :/ we are just trying to rule it out from the video card and get you good FPS in game. Is your Internet plunged in to a switch/hub  then your computer or is it from provider box straight into your computer? Try from your net providers web page to run a ping test/ speed test as we did have issues at one time in this house it turned out to be a bad cable box from our net provider. 

Also try repair game again as it can take a few tries to fix issues.

On PC with AMD I found that the latest installers drop RAPTR or something like that. It is a recording game overlay much like what Origin does. It creates significant lag on the game. I removed that and the game was back to "normal". I do persive a degradation in FPS compared to what it was before but it is working better. This issue was introduced with the latest patch.

Even Fraps makes issues in BF4 now so I made a cfg to see FPS lol. 

To see FPS in game with out fraps etc:
1- open note pad
2-put this in the note pad..... perfoverlay.drawfps 1
3-when you make the user.cfg in notepad,change the file type from text to all. And name it user.cfg
4-Put in .....:\Program Files(x86)\Origin Games\Battlefield 4
5-Also close Origin to put cfg in just to be safe :}
6-You will see your FPS in top right of screen when you start BF4

I set the Nvidia settings as you said but, one game crashed and the other had the usual lag.

I usually use the console (~) and type Perfoverlay.drawfps 1 and/or Perfoverlay.drawgraph 1 to study what is going on. When I first enter a map I clock in at 80fps. During normal gameplay 50-70fps with some dips into 40s. When the lag starts the FPS counter is unreliable as it will never say 0 because it is unable to update itself while totally frozen. Freezes can be from .5-4 seconds.

Another thing I'll add that didn't happen before the July 8th patch is that if I die while frozen, when I unfreeze, I can still control my character while vewiing the killcard until eventually the death animation starts. Also sound loops have disappeared. Sounds good but I'll trade a sound loop for a freeze any day.

I'm going to try to "repair" the game and reinstall immediately but, I'm doubful.

I suspect the problem lies in a registry error. SFC and other utilities only find "errors" but, not values that could just be different if altered with regedit. I would love to compare registry values of a working machine similar to mine (Win 7, Two hard drives, OS on one, Users and Program Files on the other, Nvidia Gen 5 or 6, maybe even a Motioninjoy user) but, I don't know how.

I saw your post about a complete tear down and rebuild (BF4, Origin, Punkbuster). That could solve it but, it may not change the registry if that were the real error. It would be real sad to waste all that time only to hit another dead end.

Hi gkibarricade what makes you think its a error in the registry? The fact your BF4 issues got worse after repair game kind of makes me agree with you on this tho we need to rule it out :/  If it is some type of registry issue the error will show in event viewer :] Dont try to fix the game until we rule out windows registry something is not correct  we need to nail it down / find it fix it then deal with the game part.   

To find event viewer ... Control Panel / Administrative Tools click on event viewer then go to event viewer local at the top, this will show you your windows errors. Then right click the error and pick view all ....

From that google event id and source with o/s.

You could try to roll back windows as will if you have it set up on your computer or repair win 7

In a way your computer is acting like mine did when I had issues in windows but did not know it then as my PC only acted up in BF4 :/  

You can also try this first I never used it as I just got mad and did formats lol.

CHKDSK utility will try and recover or fix any data or installation errors. This can take a few hrs. SSD vs HD

ive experienced serious lag issues ever since ive played this 4 6 motnths under 2 different cable companys and still lags i always get shot and killed in 1-3 bullets everytime and i have 2 shoot these people 7-8 times almost everytime sometimes more than that grenades doesnt kill anybody even directly on them dragon teeth suddenly kicks u off every 10 games or so and u have 2 reboot the whole game each timeive even had a comcast tech 2 check everything and its fine im in kansas city do i just have a weak signal or what the tech said everything was fine somethin aint seriously right it gets really old getting robbed 4 6 months straight and outshooting half these guys and i die everytime 6 months of stats down the drain putting 100 into this game and this is what i get? whats really goin on wonder if anybody else has the same issues im just so sick and tired of it and they need 2 fix the dang spawning behind people when there shooting at somebody else stuff 2 its really stupid and cheap i dont even wanna spawnon somebody like that its insane lag somebody help me please ive tried everything including makin a new port 4 my modem 4 the ps4 didnt help but 4 the first time i used it then its the same old lag everytime its so frustrating loggin on bf4 just 2 get robbed 50% of the time when im sgooting first and more doesnt make any friggin sense ive tried everything and researched and nothings worked

Event Viewer pointed to possible causes:

Currupted User Account - I couldn't Create a new user account and pass everything over because I don't have enough space for double the space of my User file. I may still try to install BF4 only on the new user to see if that is it. This is very suspicous because I have had User Account problems in the past.

Ran Directx setup from Battlefield 4/_Installer/directx/redist

IE11 hang - This is no big deal because it is usually a poor webpage that causes hangs. If anything I will play without IE to see a difference.

Network Hiccups - I have ChoiceCable internet and usually they are pretty stable but the internet will drop out about 5 times a year. Just last month, I changed my box. Looking to go back to a non-wireless router to eliminate parasitic connection and test that.

Recently installed printer - I uninstalled my non-existant EPSON printer

Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) - I don't know whether this is benign or not. More study

Google Talk plugin - It does not want to update/uninstall so I hit it with http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall and the Fixit was able to find it and fix it.

Group Policy editor - Enabled "Allow local activation security check exemptions

I found something very promising:

While troubleshooting Event id 513 CAPI2, I found a spat of VSS  FileMaps located at c:\windows\winsxs\Filemaps that were causing the error. Upon closer inspection the files could be grouped into dates modified: 7/8/2014, 6/8/2014, 1/11/2014 and 10/24/2013. 28 files only in these 4 dates. The files themselves seem to be sort of random: framwork v3.0 and v3.5, Windows Journal, DVD Maker, IE, Microsoft Games etc. I wouldn't be suprised if these dates lined up to BF4 updates. I quarenteened the files and am hoping for the best.
