How can I get my Steelseries 3GC Controller to work?

I purchased a new Steel Series 3GC Controller in late may and had mainly bought it to play Battlefield 3, when I open the game and try to customize the button layout, it wont work. I had the right joystick so I could move around, but it will look up and down, and deploy items and change weapons with left and right. I have tried to figure this issue out and am starting to lose faith in this controller. Please contact me as soon as possible before I return it back to gamestop or just trash it!
