How do I gift an origin pc game purchase?

How do I gift an origin pc game purchase? I just purchased Battlefield 3 Aftermath using the origin online store and would like to gift my purchase to a friend. How do I go about doing that? I already have the extension but my friend does not. I thought I would be email a key code I could send to my friend. But it just say go download the content from within origin... I already own it... I don't need two copies

HELP!

There is no "gift" option available on the Origin store. If you accidentally purchased a copy of a already owned expansion, you can get in contact with our support team. If you want to gift him the expansion, you could use other retailers for a gamecode or just classy if you give him the money for the game.

    Cheers

  • Of course logging in as that person and buying it is an option, but it's a crappy one...  To buy a digital gift through Origin requires obtaining someone else's credentials?  Regardless if they are a "good friend" or whatnot, that's a very poor way to handle account security, and certainly not an acceptable workaround.  Many other services I use (such as Origin's biggest threat STEAM, which because of Origin's poor feature set is kicking sand in Origin's face daily) have these options...  EA, if you want to compete in the digital distribution arena, you need to step it up and make the Origin client much more robust.  Right now I use Steam for my main I.M. client, most of my game purchases, forums and community features for the various games, etc.  For Origin, I only go into it to fire up a game, but use it for nothing else because it isn't...  well...  very useful.

luckily I only spent $8 on a 2nd copy of PvZ:Garden Warfare. I guess I paid $8 for the 150,000 coins, so that is not a bad deal..

No gift option?! No wonder everyone keeps saying Origin sucks. I did not wanted to believe it, but this is just absurd.

EA proves continually how inferior of a service they offer compared to Valve's Steam.

I want to renew her membership for a year, not just a game.

  • EA - Let us be honest here. It's time to introduce this feature. I am shocked that this feature has been ignored over and over.

How long has it been now? Three, even four years now since Origin has been released? Yet a gift option has not been enabled. It really should not be hard to implement, ESPECIALLY on software that has many games and many users. I am baffled as to question why this implementation hasn't been added.

Also considering the economic value would be great for EA, buying games for others instead of them buying it on someone else. The fact of the matter is that  it would be much more easier than going to the store and giving the key to your friend.

Seriously, think about this EA. There is nothing to lose.

Also, considering moving this to the Origin section rather than Battlefield 3. Seems much more convinient to do so.

This is way stupid, even the answer from support. Buying a copy from retailer to gift? If we wanted to we'd already done it. I personally like digital distribution despite the need to download the whole game. That's something that contributed to me stopping me using ILLICIT copies of a video game. Steam is really amazing that way. And then there's also that genuine copies of video game are not easily found in my country. I saw a friend downloading a pirated copy of a game. The friend's birthday is close, and I wanted to purchase this game as a gift and have this friend create an Origin account. Tell you what? I'll let that friend use that pirated version. Less money for you EA.
