Is it possible to upgrade from a standard copy of BF3 to the premium version that has all the maps, weapons, etc? I got the standard edition from the Humble Origin Bundle today but want to upgrade without having to actually buy the premium version seperately.

The only way to upgrade from the standard versoin to the Premium version is to go into the Origin store and buy BF3 Premium (not the F3 Premium Edition). Origin frequently has sales on BF3 Premium so if you have some patience you can get it at a greatly reduced price.
The BF3 Premium Edition comes with the base BF3 game and the Premium DLC season pass. It retails for around $40 USD. If you already have BF3 I would just purchase Premium unless you can find the Premium Edition for a cheaper price at which time you would just redeem the premium code from the BF3 Premium edition.
