If I buy a steam game from EA and activate it on origin, do I still need steam?

@GUCCI_Trekkot I have Battlefield on both Steam and Origin. If you purchase from Origin you must launch from Battlelog for Battlefield 3 and it will launch either the Steam or Origin version depending on which on you purchased, for Battlefield 4 launch the game via the In game UI or via Battlelog, or for Battlefield 1 and V you must launch the game via Steam or Origin first and then join a server.  This will likely be the method used for Battlefield 2042.

Regarding your question about redeeming a Steam key in Origin that isn't possible you can only choose which Origin account to link your Steam account. You can only launch Battlefield from whichever client you purchased the game from. I've attached a screenshot from my own Origin library and you see I have both an Origin copy and a Steam copy of the game because I have two copies of the game from buying it once on each platform. If I click on the Origin copy in Origin it launches normally via Origin if that copy is installaed. If I click the Steam Copy in Origin it makes me launch the game via Steam.

My recommendation is to refund the Steam purchase and purchase Bf2042 on the correct Steam account linked to the specific Origin account you want to play 2042 on. The alternate course of action would be to unlink your current Steam and Origin accounts and link to them to the correct accounts but that may create other issues if you're currently playing Origin games via Steam.
