Latency problems

Hi there, I know this is a known issue that pops up with a lot of people once in a while.

My latency is so damn weird I don't know what to make of it anymore. I'm a PC user from Singapore. The Hong Kong servers are 37ping normally and that's fine but there's only 2 active nowadays and rest of the servers seem to be in Japan now. The japan servers did not used to be this high last time. And now they're 150+ ?

What's going on? I've already contacted my ISP about this. Every year this seems to happen somehow. I email my ISP and they'll solve it. Not this time though.

They replied me with :

We have received feedback from our senior technical team and they said that the from the trace route results provided, latency is within the acceptable range.

So who do I turn to now? Every other multiplayer online game I have seems to be fine so why does BF1 do this weird antics?

  • Hey there, @legionary90.

I took a look at your screenshot and things look great for the HK servers, but I do see some issues with the ping to the Japanese servers. Let's see if we can find out what's going on here.

Could you give the connectivity troubleshooting a try to start to see if it helps improve your connection to those servers?

It may very well be something on the route between you and our servers there. Just to confirm, what ISP do you use?

    Hey there, @legionary90.

I'm sorry to hear that you're getting a bit of a runaround there. There are a few programs you can Google search that can perform reverse traceroutes, however as they are third-party programs and not run by EA, we can't recommend any specifically and they are for use at your own risk.

Generally, the standard traceroute with major jumps in latency tends to be enough information for an ISP to find what is wrong, and based on where it's located, either be able to fix it themselves or work with those who own that server on the path. In this case, it looks like the first problematic hop of your traceroute is IP 203.208.158.50, which is owned by SingTel and has a ping of over 170.

I noticed several threads on various websites about gaming possibly being throttled by SingTel after 7pm. Are you able to take a traceroute both before (such as afternoon) and after 7pm to see if that may be what is affecting it?
