My account has been hacked and security question has been changed to russian

Hello everyone! Recently i reviewed my options and i noticed that my country (Chile) and language (Español) has been changed to Afganistan and English, i fixed that but the worst was my security option was changed into a russian question: "В какую начальную школу вы ходили?". I searched for a translation and it means "What primary school did you go to?". I thought it was an error or something like that and i wrote my answer but it didn't work. I can access with my password but i can't change anything so my account is vulnerable to security threats. Please, help me! I promise i will strengthen the security of my account.

  • Hey there @Gatomate !

Oh hamburgers, that's an unfortunate situation you're in. Don't worry though, luckily you still got access to the account itself. That means getting your account back fully in your hands will be much easier for you. Still, this does mean your only bet is to contact an EA Advisor at EA Support as quickly as possible as they're the only ones capable of changing your account details for you: https://help.ea.com/en/contact-us/

If you need further advice contacting the support, here's a link for that : http://answers.ea.com/t5/Technical-Issues/How-to-contact-an-Advisor-via-EA-Help/td-p/5650100

Mind you, today is Sunday, so contacting the support can be a bit challenging as most regions do have a day off during Sundays. You can still try if you can get yourself into a Live chat or a call though. If the support seems unavailable though, do contact them back on Monday.

And please, for the sake of your account's future security, do make sure to go through the advice here to ensure that you wouldn't get hacked again : https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/account/i-think-somebody-hacked-my-origin-account-what-can-i-do-now/

And here's some tips you can follow to ensure your account's security will be nice and strong afterwards : https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/account/how-to-maintain-account-security/

     Good luck !

Thank you very much @RedFoxxie. I feel much better, now that I've read your answer. I'll try the live chat this afternoon! If i can't contact the support by chat i guess i have to make a call on Monday, but i'm from Chile, that means I have to contact support from EA Mexico or it doesn't matter?

I'll update my answer when I do what you told me!

    No problem @Gatomate

When you are on the support page, you can change your region from the top right if you wish to contact a different region's support. Nothing stops you from picking up the US for example and contacting their Live chat. I, for example, live myself in Finland and I only have the choice to take a phone call, so if I want to contact an English Live chat, I will rather pick as my region UK/US.

Speaking of phone numbers, if you need phone numbers for other regions than Mexico as well, here's some international phone numbers :

    UK: +44 203 0141818
    France:  +33 4 81 68 08 08
    Spain: +34 911 230 490
    Germany +49 221 37 050 193
    Austria: +43 720  88 33 49
    Mexico: +52 33 4770 5297
    Norwegian:  +47 21 08 17 06
    Dutch: +31 20 80 83 219
    Swiss:  +41 225 18 10 05
    Poland:  +48 22 39 70 840

EA suggests the usage of VOIP for international calls because it is cheaper : http://answers.ea.com/t5/Technical-Issues/How-to-contact-an-Advisor-via-EA-Help/td-p/5650100#UnsupportedRegion

Let's hope you'll get in contact with the support personnel as quick as possible  ~

No problem @Gatomate , glad to see you're back in action now !

And also, @onelaid113 . I believe there was some while back a leak which allowed hackers to access accounts which only had security question available by being basically capable of bypassing the security question altogether . . Largely affected accounts that have had only a Security Question and nothing else.

The account security question is kinda meant to be a sort of a "last resort" thing you can use in order to be able to recover things on your account if absolutely everything else fails. It is not at all preferred to have on your account *only* the Security Question as honestly, Security Questions are alone not very secure (Reason why Google for example got rid of them altogether), and it is always preferred that you have at least some form of verification available on your account.

All in all though, remember to always make the security question something only you can remember. It doesn't even have to make any sense, if it makes sense to you. Like you can answer to "What street you grew up on ?" something like "Street Fighter" if it makes sense for you.

If you go from the top right and click the little arrow next to your name, and choose EA Account (Or goto Origin, click top left Origin and EA Account and Billing) , and there you click the Security tab, you should always have at least either an e-mail verification or App Authenticator available, preferably also secondary e-mail and Backup Codes. That way nobody can enter your account from any untrusted devices as they need to enter your verification. So even if they would be able to get through your security question they'd have to be able to access either your e-mail or phone and that's a wee bit more difficult to do.

In any case, you have access to your account so you are easily able to contact the support and ask them to change your account details back following the same advice I gave earlier.

    Good luck !

    Thanks for the tip @RedFoxxie

EA Advisor just finished resetting my security question. Had trouble contacting EA by Chat, took time to know how to make it work.

As per your advise, I'm using the App Aunthenticator.

Finally I can get rid of this "onelaid113"....
