Packet Loss Out - BF4 PC

Hello there!

Here is a traceroute to a random server that I get under 50ms ping on, but have gotten as high as 38% packet out loss.

I am playing the game through the EA desktop app with EA play via Xbox Game Pass.

 74.91.122.18:25200

https://www.gametracker.com/server_info/74.91.122.18:25200/

I have tried using a VPN, no vpn, a fresh install of both game and ea desktop, it is a newly installed windows less than a week old, i have tried enabling as well as fully disabling all firewall and antivirus software on my pc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Thanks!

  • Contact your ISP and let them know the IP address of the hops dropping packets. It is on their side and nothing you can do on your side will change this.

  • @Heret1c121 Have you tried unplugging your router and letting it sit for a couple of minutes and then plug it back in? Have you also cleared your PC's DNS cache?

    @ragnarok013 Yes and Yes!

So a bit of info. Talked to ISP. They "repinged/retraced" my router, then had me reset it to force a new ip or something, and that helped a LOT! So my packet loss is mainly in the single digits now and mostly playable!

    Hi @Heret1c121 ,

Any level of package loss is truly toxic for first person shooter games, as it causes missing hit registrations for you and enemies in the gameplay.

Its often caused by the customer and/or ISP that pushes the line speed rate up so high, that the involved hardware and software can no longer ensure line quality.  My recommendation was that you ask your ISP to lower your line speed just a bit, as that will typically bring wonders to your line quality and ensure you have consistently zero package loss!

This is btw also reason #1 for the many players observing the "You lost connection to the EA Game Server" error situation...

FPS games do really not need much in terms of line speed. Only like 3-4 Mb/s download and 750kb/s upload is more than sufficient.

But the line quality is an absolute must.

Btw, with all the above comments, I trust that you are not using WiFi or 3G/4G for connecting your game platform to the Internet...?

  • @CyberDyme I am toxic than? Because I want to play an 8 year old game with a group of friends and would rather suffer through terrible rubber banding on my end and almost always crashing a vehicle? Is it because I expect my 150 mbps download and 10 mbps upload speeds are too slow to play an 8 year old game?

Yes. ISP. Whatever they did made my game ten times more playable and enjoyable. It is still not 100% but I can live with it to play with people I enjoy gaming with.

I have never had a "lost connection to EA Game server" to please keep it relevant to the very specific original topic.

I can play WOW, Planetside 2, FFXIV, LOL, Overwatch, and COUNTLESS OTHERS with 0 issues. So I would love for you to tell me more how my line quality is.

I hope with the very specific nature of my post it would be assumed that I am somewhat knowledgeable but I guess I was mistaken.

He must of seen your tracert, he wasn't calling you toxic, just the two routers that were dropping all those packets. BF4 uses UDP so when a router starts dropping packets the game will do all sorts of weird stuff.

I'm glad your ISP helped some with your connection but those routers dropping packets are going to cause you unending headaches. You need to escalate with your ISP and see if they can contact the router owners that are causing all the issues.

You should try and do quiet line check, you would need to search to see if your ISP/line provider has a service to do it. I know in the UK we have multiple we can use

  • Indeed @sk1lld ,

Not sure what triggered @Heret1c121 to think otherwise, as just highlighted the ISP could improve his line quality by simply lowering the line speed just a bit.  As the gaming do not need at all all that line speed he had.

But that appear to confuse some players.  (even the super experienced ones...  🙂)

The game cannot even utilize higher speeds.  But higher speeds compromise the line quality.  Hence the reason to lower the speed to enable a consistently high quality line and get rid of the package drops.

Happy that your ISP got it fixed for you @Heret1c121  !
