[PC] Battlefield 4 Hard Freeze

After playing BF4 for about an hour or so it freezes my entire PC and I am forced to to use the power button to power it off. This doesn't happen in any other game. Is this yet another issue with the critically acclaimed BF4 or my Gpu/Ram ,i can see the Hdd indicator light stops blinking as well

In normal times i don't get any freezes, i did mem, gpu, cpu test but it came out clear... What is the problem and how do i fix ?

Things i tried

Repair

OS reinstall / fresh drivers install

Re reassembled my hardware

Unparking my cores !!

Please i can't play more than 2 - 3 rounds without hard freeze

Thank you !

System

  • CPU
    Intel Core i7-4790k @ 4.00 GHz
  • Motherboard
Asus Maximus VII Formula/Watch Dog Edition
  • RAM
    8.00 GB (4 x 2) Ripjwas
  • GPU
Asus NVIDIA Strix GTX 970 OC Edition
  • PSU
    Corsair VS 650
  • Cooling
    Corsair H80i
  • Operating System
    Windows 10 Pro x64

Happens in both Windows 8.1 pro / Windows 10 pro (64bit ofcourse)

Okay i got a BSOD - WHEA UNCORRECTABLE EROR

  • This is related to the WHEA UNCORRECTABLE ERROR and may fix also the freeze prblem as side affect

Could be a marginal PSU problem, or a Windows Error
    First try System File Checker
Click on start button, type cmd
Right click on cmd.exe, run as administrator
    Type sfc /scannow then Enter

It finds and fixes errors in Windows, but doesn't always report them. Run it and see if the fault disappears after re-booting your system
If corrupt files are found that can’t be fixed, try

    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth (Observe spaces before /)

    Re-run SFC

    To view CBS Log

    findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >sfcdetails.txt

Search C drive for sfcdetails.txt or navigate to C:\Windows\System32 and scroll down.

If this doesn't work then it may be your PSU that is leaving us ☹️

I already tried repairing , sfc etc

On my observation its only happens when i play on ultra (other words i draw high power)

As i already have tried all the steps with OS reinstall + CMOS clear

It only leaves me to PSU , as you said !!

    Thanks for a proper response

  • No problem. I hope that you will be able to fix the problem. Good luck!
