[PC] Binding keys gets slower and slower until game crashed on every bind
The key binding file gets larger and larger every bind until it takes so long to bind the game halts and you get kicked for not responding. This happens no matter which order you rebind the keys. The more settings you change under option the larger the file gets and the closer you are to crashing on every change until you delete your settings file and start over again.
The only fix to this is deleting your game settings under my documents/battlefield 4/settings
This is a major problem for those of us who do not use the default bindings, as 80% into rebinding keys it gets progressively slower until the game stops responding.
THIS IS A MAJOR BUG AFFECTING ALL PC INSTALLS
** TEMPORARY SOLUTION: **
The game has a settings file leak, where it gets slower and slower every time you make a change to any jet keybindings in settings.
To reset it delete the PROFSAVE_profile file in your My Documents/Battleifeld 4/settings directory and start over.
You'll have to rebind all keys again, which also count towards your max # of settings changes.
This is an issue with both jet and helicopter bindings
THIS IS A MAJOR BUG WHICH EA HAS YET TO ACKNOWLEDGE
For those who are PC savvy, here is a regex to find/remove all of the invalid entries in the PROFSAVE_profile file
^GstKeyBinding\.jet\.Concept.*\.(([4-9][0-9]*)|([0-9][0-9]+))\.[a-z]* [0-9]*$
It should be noted, my settings file had 327,000 invalid entries in it.
I think I found a solution..
I compared the sizes of PROF_SAVE_profile in My Documents/Battlefield 3/settings and the file: PROFSAVE_profile in My Documents/Battlefield 4/settings and the size of the 2nd was 64MB(!!!!) instead of 30kb of the BF3 one. --> This large file explains the crash.
So i renamed the bf3 one from
PROF_SAVE_profile to PROFSAVE_profile
and replaced in My Documents/Battlefield 4/settings folder and I now have the bindings of BF3 in BF4.
