perf. issues/crashes after Winterpatch. hotfix inc?

headline basically states it. before the patch came bf4 was running smooth without hicups or anything. first round after the patch and the problems started.

-the game crashes randomly. sometimes after 2 hours, somtimes after 5. sometimes twice in one hour. no error massage. game freezes, sound starts to loop and 3 seconds later iam back to the desktop.

-perfomance issues. its like the game freezes for 100ms. it gets worse the longer i play. after 1 hour and 2 maps, its there every 4seconds or so. when i get hit, it freezes for 100ms. when i die, it freezes. when i turn. fps drops from solid 60 (vsync) to 40 during the "hiccup" as i said, the effect accumulates and after a while, its not just dropping to 40 for an instant, its dropping to 20 fps and stays there for like 10 seconds and longer, if it reoccurs again and again. if that happens for too long, the game grashes (see above)

also, my ram suddenly starts to fill up (90% full) while playing (which wasnt the case before the patch)

what i tried so far: newer nvidia driver and an older one from 2014. no change. reinstalling the game. no change. turning origin ingame off. no change. bl ingame, no change. set grafics to minimum. no change (even then there are those ms freezes).

i didnt changed anything on my system in the night the patch came out. and the day before, it ran smooth as every.

is there a definitive workaround for this problem or will the issue be handled in a coming hotfix?(i hope the hotfix is NOT the spring patch)

I have the same problem. I have also tried all the things you have. I then tried uninstalling the Nvidia experience application (advice on another forum). Oddly, this did seem to resolve the direct x error I was getting, but it has been replaced by the screens on my monitor and laptop going black right before level loads on multiplayer. This requires a hard restart as nothing responds. Regardless, i still get random crashes that are the norm rather than the exception.

I never had any problems from this game before the patch. When the games works (which is rarely), there are some improvements, but my ping is sporadic at best. It starts at 50 and then sometimes bounces to 100, then as high as 200, and then back down. I am pretty sure I fixed this accidentally by doing a repair install of Microsoft C++ redistributeable and adding the x86 version as well.  For some reason my ping stabilized after that. At least I think so. The biggest problem I have with the crashes are that they are not consistent and I cant pin them down to one thing.

It took me a while to realize that the only thing that had been changed before the crashes was the patch. Then I found the battlelog forums that have roughly 500 pages of people with the exact same problem. My specs are Intel core i7 - 16gb ram - gtx 860m - so hardware isn't an issue.

Hopefully more people will post to this thread to draw some attention to this because EA is acting like there isnt a problem. I appreciate any help, but I think we can skip the usual re-install game, clean boot, turn down settings, clean fans, stand on head and count down to ten, advice for fixing. I've tried all the typical fixes that would come to mind and this isn't my first rodeo. What we really need is a hotfix for the broken code. If you have this problem, please post it here and lets make this the official broken winter patch thread.

Well, after a lot more messing around I found something that seems to work. I use an external monitor to play on. My laptop screen usually just shows whatever or maybe my map. After reading an obscure post somewhere, I figured out that by not extending my displays and just using the external monitor as my primary display, I was able to stop all the issues I was having. Its not a fix, but it will work for now. Let me know if you want to know the other solutions I tried?

  • Please try all this, even if you have already done so try it again.

    Repair your game,
    1) Go to My Games in Origin
    2) Right-click the game
    3) Select Repair Install

    To Clean Boot Your PC,

    1) Press Win+R
    2) Type 'msconfig.' in the prompt and hit enter
    3) When Msconfig opens select 'General'
    4) Choose Selective Startup option.
    5) Uncheck 'Load startup items box'
    6) Open the 'Services tab' then select 'Hide all Microsoft services' Option at the bottom of the tab
    7) Press 'Disable All' Button
    8) When prompted restart.

If you are experiencing bad game play try the following,

    - Updating Drivers
    - Clean Booting your PC
    - CPU Boost,

    1) Open My Documents
    2) Press Battlefield 4
    3) Select setting then open 'PROFSAVE_profile' in notepad.
    4) Find the line that says 'GstRender.TextureQuality X' (Note the X is a number but is different per PC)
    5) Press enter then add 'GstRender.Thread.MaxProcessorCount (this should be number of processors -1) '

    Try Zorlacc's Tips - http://answers.ea.com/t5/Battlefield-4/PC-Tips-and-tricks-to-keep-your-PC-amp-Game-stable/m-p/4283303#U4283303

Make sure all drivers are updated, including Motherboard drivers, GPU Drivers, Sound Drivers, PCIe Drivers and Disk Drivers.

    Still no luck?

Post a DXDiag, UOTrace and Ping,

    To Gather DXDiag Info,

    1) Press Win+R
    2) In the run box type 'DXDiag' then hit enter
    3) If you have a 64-bit PC click the button 'Run 64-bit DxDiag' (if you have a 32bit PC this option will not be avaliable)
    4)Press 'Save All Information'
    5) To share this file with me upload it to http://hastebin.com/ and share URL

    To UOTrace - http://help.ea.com/uk/article/how-to-uo-trace/

To Ping EA follow these steps,

1)Press Win+R, in the box type CMD and hit enter
    2)Type into CMD 'ping easo.ea.com'
    3)Hit enter and await results.

good to hear you solved it! iam using a desktop pc so i doubt that this will help me out :D but let me know what else you've tried

    as for killer:

    tried repair the game

    tried the clean boot

    tried deactivating core parking

added the line into the txt and set it to "4"

this lead to a problem i cant get rid off: adding the line changed other ingame settings that i cant turn back on/off. i.e weapon DOF. its off in the menu but still on ingame. if i change it ingame, vsync turns off and graphics settings change. so i set the value for weapon DOF to 0 in the text, but its still on ingame

    http://hastebin.com/epumogewix.tex <- dixdiag

when iam back from work, ill try the rest.

    thank you for the help

Yeah, it would seem that we have different cases, but if you think about what is working for me maybe we can figure it out. Before I get into what I am talking about though, let me just say that I have tried all of the other posters solutions. Everything except Windows 8.1 pro was uninstalled (clean uninstalls that swept every trace of programs/drivers) and re-installed. None of that worked. I also tried weird solutions like disabling Origin in game or changing various settings of the game itself. Also a dead end. I knew I wasnt willing to re-install my OS though because even if that solved the problem, I never did anything to cause it in the first place so it was sure to return.

So, why does it work for me now. Well, if you think about it our systems are not that different. I have a laptop body (screen has to disabled for game to work) and you have a desktop case. Both are connected to a monitor through cables (HDMI for me). I have never messed with my Nvidia control panel settings so they are all default. The only difference would have to be in how we are displaying the game. When it wasnt working, I used the bf4 in game menu to select screen 2 as my primary screen for the game. It was running in borderless window mode which I would switch to full screen. Now, the game is set to screen one as my primary and is set to full screen mode so it takes full focus of my desktop and switches into the game. The only way to get back to my desktop is to exit the game or ctrl+alt+delete.

Before I figured this out, I had seen people discussing windowed mode problems that came from the last patch for the game about a year ago. Regardless, allowing the game to have 100% control/focus allows me to play uninterrupted. I would obviously prefer to play the way I had been before with access to both my desktop and my game at the same time (allows me to jam some music or use the second screen as a map), but at least I can play now. Definitely try and manipulate those settings though and I think you will have good luck. I also wouldnt expect any fixes from Dice or EA anytime soon with Hardline coming out next week. Good luck and I will check back in to see what your status is. Take care bud -- Jcoop

  • Can you post your PC specs to include OS, also if you get any error messages or error codes please post those as well.
