Performance Issues (Random lag spikes)

I just bought Battlefield 4 yesterday. Played the campaign with no problems, no issues with lag and I could play it at high settings. Once I beat the campaign I got into multiplayer. When I played the first game it was fine, the game had around 64 players in it and it was just fine on high settings. Then on all the other games  it started having random lag spikes like crazy! Even if I put it on low it would still have these random lag spikes, and not much better than when it was on high or ultra. I went into geforce experience and added Battlefield 4 to my games list, then I clicked on optimize. It turned everything to ultra and turned AA all the way up. I doubt it is a problem with the graphics card because I can play Battlefield 3 on ultra averaging about 90-100 fps! Can someone tell me what is wrong, (pc specs below.)

PC Specs:

GPU: Dual Geforce GTX 470s

CPU:Intel i7 875k, 4 Core, 8 Thread, Overclocked to 4.0GHz

RAM: 4.00 GB 1600mhz

MOBO:EVGA P55 SLI

I play Battlefield 4 at 1440x900 60hz, (Native resolution)

I believe I figured out the problem. I think it is the SLI but I will need to do a bit more testing to be sure about it.

  • Hi Xenimus try this set of settings please 😕mileyhappy: Then test BF4 and post back and let me know how it is.

    Run the game as Administrator:
Go to the Origin games folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Battlefield 4) and find Bf4.exe. Right click it and go to PROPERTIES, then COMPATIBILITY and check the box next to RUN THIS PROGRAM AS ADMINISTRATOR.
Do the same with BF4_x86.exe as well.

    Run Origin as Administrator:
Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin and right click on Origin.exe and go to properties. Then go to compatibility tab and check the box next to RUN AS ADMIN.

    Disable Origin in game:
In Origin - Application settings - Origin in Game - disable Origin in game

Origin Cloud Storage turn it off
    Origin, settings, General

Make Sure BF4 is set to 64bit if your windows is 64bit
1- open origin and go to My Games
2-Right click BF4 and go to Game Properties
3-Under when launching this game set it to x64 and check off disable origin in game.
4- Hit apply and test you BF4

Another thing that may be worth trying: run a Clean Boot: http://help.ea.com/en/article/how-to-clean-boot-your-pc/
This should ensure that no programs are interfering in the background.

Your very welcome happy to try and help you 😕mileyhappy: So due to your PC specs and only have 4 gig ram I would test BF4 out on low settings to see if it helps make it more smooth 😕mileyfrustrated:

Edit .... I am blind just seen this .... I went into geforce experience and added Battlefield 4 to my games list, then I clicked on optimize. No evil program do your own settings never allow a program to do it this alone could make the issue. I will not even allow geforce experience on my game box yes I hate it this much.😕mileylol:

Also take a good hard look at programs and aps you have on when in BF4 turn them OFF in task manager what ever you can and test BF4. Some programs make mega issues in BF4 I have a small list below but I am sure more will be added to it in time...

Disable Mantle if you have it and try Direct X

Others have said if they uninstall MSI Afterburner issues / crashing is stopped. So if you have this installed remove program and test BF4. Also look at other programs as Fraps, Geforce experience, be sure to turn off the streaming function that is enabled by default ,Raptr, RivaTuner , ASRock eXtreme Tuner, Steam, Skype and xfire are known to make issues as well. And I am sure more programs not in my list yet turn one off at a time and test BF4. Since last patch more programs now give issues :/

Uninstall the HD Audio Driver from the video card driver install add/remove programs. This silly thing makes issues in BF4 for some. Reboot then repair BF4 to be safe.

What do you use to see FPS in game? If its fraps keep it off I can give you information on how to make a cfg to see fps in game if you want it.
