  • Nice a post back saying yes or no on everything you rock and got a XP from me on that :womanvery-happy:

    Have you tried this..

Re- install origin only not your game just origin.

    1. Uninstall Origin completely from Windows Control Panel.
    2. Reboot your PC. This is important to clear out any lingering registry files or directories.
    3. Download the latest here: http://origin.com/download
    4. Install Origin You should not be prompted to update.

Just did that, sadly, nope, not working. ☹️

The confusing thing is for what it looks like Battlefield Hardline beta broke my game.

Battlefield 4 was working fine before.

Aaand even the beta only worked for 2 minutes.

Now I have no shooter other than Plants Vs Zombies Garden warfare to play ☹️

Edit: Even PvZ doesn't work now. Is this related to origin? But I just reinstalled it!

Edit: The Sims 4 still works though, so it's not origin?

  • It still could be an idea to reinstall origin, however this will delete all your games.

You can backup your games though, navigate to Program files and copy the origin games folder to a Removable drive or my Docs.

  • Something is fully mucked up we just need to find it as a re install of Origin has fixed this issue for others when maps will not load. This second I am thinking ... move the BF4 my documents folder to desk top just to test this. Then reboot your PC and then try to load BF4 again  as you already did the re install of Origin.

To answer your question yes Origin can give issues for games at times but I have no idea why. I will stay with you until we get this fixed. I may ask a few friends to have a look at your topic to see if they have ideas. I will give you my steps next to rule out windows helping to do this as well due to it is effecting more then one game. If nothing else you will know your windows is stable on your PC and if it is not stable the scan will fix or try to fix windows. :womanhappy:

If the first part in this post fails to help lets try this if nothing else just to rule it out..

Please update your Origin client to the latest Beta version (top left Origin menu, Application Settings - General) Then reboot PC and try again.

Post back let me know how it goes and if this fails we check windows just to rule it out or fix it no worries not a format :womanwink:

In my second post I had the OP  uninstall Origin and this did not work. And for the record when you uninstall Origin it does not remove your games.

    Tried that. Nothing different.

I just did the "sfc /scannow" command.

Seems like there truly are some files broken but for some reason it prompts that some of the files cannot get fixed.

And the problem is still here.

    Edit: Updating origin to Beta...

    Edit: Nope, doesn't work.

  • Ok what windows are you on if windows 8.1 see my steps below.....We just found part of the reason for all this. Nice you knew what I was talking about ruling out windows. I am not sure the origin beta will help due to windows.  We need to get your windows fixed.

Test your windows for errors as a clean windows install does not always make a stable windows.

NOTE: Running SFC does not guarantee the crash will not happen, but it will ensure it is not because a windows Dll or file is corrupted in windows.

This works in all windows O/S vista Win7, Win8 and Win8.1 windows system file checker :] Copy and past this to note pad and put it on your desktop. As open programs can give you errors when you run this.

sfc /scannow, ever hear of it if not your going to love this, it will inspect all the important windows files as well as the windows DLL files. If windows system file checker finds any issues with the windows files and windows DLL files it will replace them / try to fix them. This little tool as well as the event viewer on a PC saved me and fully helped me fix my BF4 issues as well as saved me many a format since I found it. This is the best toy they ever put in windows :womanvery-happy:

-For win7 go to start/ bottom left screen / windows globe .. Right click in search type cmd and right click cmd pick run as administrator.
-For win 8.1 right mouse click start bottom left of screen / windows box and pick command prompt administrator.

1-Open administrator command prompt and close web pages and programs like Origin, Steam etc.

2-Type or copy and paste in sfc /scannow and hit enter, This takes 5 min to 15 min SSD vs HD

3-This can go one of a few ways ..... no errors ... it fixed some errors ..... could not fix all errors...... does not finish checking and errors out ....... and the last one could not fix errors at all :/

4-After its done REBOOT PC and Run sfc /scannow again even if you had no errors the first time or had errors, could not fix run sfc /scannow again and when its done a second time reboot. You need to do this a and get no errors 2 x in a row ...

5-So if you ran it 2x and no errors your safe you can stop. If you had errors first time but not the second then run sfc /scannow again and when its done reboot. You need to get could not find any errors 2 x to be safe. If it still finds errors try and run it a few more times until it finds no errors 2x AND ALWAYS REBOOT BETWEEN RUNNING sfc /scannow

6-If you get a message indicating that it can not be repaired and you ran sfc /scannow more then 3x in a row on win vista or 7 mm you need a format or try repair win 7 :/ But after format or repair and all updates are done run sfc /scannow to make sure your windows is stable same deal 2x error free reboot between them.

NOTE-If your O/S is Win8 or Win 8,1 then you can run the next few command lines in administrator command prompt. Sadly this does not work for win vista or 7 :/ Note: After you run each command line Reboot PC.

This next part of windows scans is only for windows 8 & windows 8.1

Reboot PC after you run each command line and close programs and web pages.

And same deal as above run command prompt administrator.

1-This command line will scan the health of your PC:
    dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth

2-This command line will restore the health of your PC and you don't lose anything on your PC :
    dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

Note: If you get errors with the two command lines above and it cant be fixed with second command line and if you are on windows 8.1. Then use third command line but be warned it could take up to two hrs to fix your PC but it will save you a format. I had a friend test this on a PC with errors when it could not be fixed with second command line. :womanvery-happy:

This next part of windows scans is only for windows 8.1 : Credit goes to CptBigoso for finding this..

And same deal as above run command prompt administrator.

1-If restore heath gave you errors then you can always try this command line:

    dism /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup

2-If you get Error 0x800F081F with the restore health scan then run this command line. After you reboot your PC then run third command line to be sure your windows is fully stable.

    Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /AnalyzeComponentStore

If the System File Scanner find errors other files might be corrupt as well.

You should probably use the Windows Disk Error Checking tool on your harddrives to test and repair errors.

If it find many errors it's probably time to format your harddrive and install Windows from scratch, perhaps even get a new harddrive as these kind of errors could be the first signs of a dying harddrive.

    To test and fix errors:

    1. Go to "This PC" in Windows and right click the hard drive and click "properties"
    2. Go to "Tools" and and press "Check"
    3. Click "Scan Drive" and let it scan for errors.
    4. If it finds errors let the program fix them
    5. Reboot your computer
    6. Run the scan again
    7. Keep repeating step 3-5 until no errors are found.

    Used the

findstr /C:"[SR] Cannot repair member file" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >"%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt"

command to filter out names of the broken files in the log.

    Amd64\CNBJ2530.DPB

Googled it, somewhat of a common file corruption.

    And it's fixed.

    Battlefield 4 still doesn't work.

Just for making things clearer, here's some sort of a list.

    Hardware: BF4 was working before.

Software: BF4 was working and I redownloaded the installers. All I get is "You already have the latest version of XXX"

System: Did sfc /scannow. Fixed all the broken files. Mine is intel.

Origin: Reinstalled origin, updated to beta.

BF4: Fixed several times with origin.

Battlelog plugin: Reinstalled and redownloaded serveral times.

Networks: Even the campaign doesn't work.

Administrator: The browser, Origin and BF4 is set to force running as administrator.

    Browser: Tried Chrome and IE.

Does BF4 Launch: Yes. I can see the process in Task Manager in all scenarios.

Does BF4 Load: No, the memory usage of the process always peaks at around 54-57mb then stays at the value.

System: Windows 8.1, hardware capable of running BF4.

  • Did you try the steps posted by Carbonic as he is one of the people I asked to look at your topic. Sorry if I missed it in your post making supper reading fast what you posted so I could have missed it.

If not I would still try what Carbonic posted. I will be back to check on you after supper is done.

Edit.... back sorry about making supper trying not to burn it and reading fast is a bad mix again sorry for this. So windows is now back to being fully stable so lets try this another way..

I did talk to a friend who had the same issue with BF4 and the way he had to fix it was by Manually  Uninstalling Origin and he chose to remove / uninstall all his games and then did Manual uninstall of Origin ... he started  clean to fix it. Now this is not a topic I pass to people as it does involve the registry and one wrong move and you lose your windows but I have the feeling you know this already.

Due to we have tried everything under the sun to fix origin and the windows issue I think it is time to try this but fully your call if you want to go down this road. And again your call if you want to uninstall the games effected first and if you do be sure to delete the origin games folders in my documents as uninstalling the games will not remove them. And be 100% sure windows has no issues before starting.

So again your call on all this , just read this link fully as it gives the steps and then decide  ..

    http://help.ea.com/en/article/manually-uninstalling-origin/

The other way we could try and fix this is to do a clean install of the games with the issue but we also run the risk of the same issue. And adding CC cleaner into the mix to clean out bad registry files but again nothing is a full on 100% this will work if we never found the full source of the issue.

Just manually uninstalled Origin and reinstalled it. Nothing different.

It will take a few days for me to redownload battlefield 4 I'll reply when that's done.

    Extra info:

The plugin can't shut it down when I cancel joining a server.

    ERROR
Could not communicate with BF4. Please use the Task Manager to close it down.

Something seems to be seriously broken about my computer.
I used to sniff the package of Origin downloading bf4 so I can find out the real address and download BF4 with a downloader.
(Origin works like * in my country, without doing this I would be downloading BF4 at an averaged speed of 70KB/s while my internet is capable of 2MB/s)

And just now the packet sniffer I use: minisniffer can't capture one single packet.
Is this a network related problem after all?

Edit: Switched to WSExplorer, captured the packet just fine.
I don't know why softwares just broke itself without a reason.

Minisniffer today, GitHub last week and Battlefield 4 a few days after the BFH beta...

And I'm sure there's no viruses on my computer.
  • This is not good I am not sure why but I still have this bad feeling about how stable your windows is :womanfrustrated: It could be just due to I don't want to have you do all this stuff and it still will not work and in part due to the issues with other programs. So lets try this as you have windows 8.1 run this in admin command prompt you no the drill nothing open etc..

    dism /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup

Also maybe it is best to download the free version of CC Cleaner and clean up the registry  as well

    https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner

As I would love to save you all the grief of doing a new download of your games and the Manually Uninstalling the Origin client as it is not a step I want you going into unless we have to. But again your PC your call on how you want to do this.

    Did dism /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup

Cleaned up the registry with CCleaner

    Redownloaded BF4 (without expansions)

    still doesn't work😕mileysurprised:

     Tested with multiplayer and campaign.

    Now I'm confused...

Edit: Wow wait, the memory usage went to 170 when I'm quiting the server joining.

Edit2: After a few trys, BF4 WORKS NOW!

So the problem is either BF4 being corrupted and Origin failed to detect that when I'm repairing the game or it is related to my system and the command line or CCleaner fixed it.

Either way now all I have to do is download the expansions.

It worked for 1 single time then same problem again.

I don't know what to say.

I'm about to do a offline test for BF4 Campaign.

Edit3: In origin offline mode at least the battlefield window pops up, but all I get is black screen in the window. And again memory usage is stuck around 55MB.

I'm about to update my graphic card driver.

    Nope, not working.

  • FIRST REPROCUABLE SUCCESS

Battlefield 4 x86 Mode works, perfectly, in Offline Origin, Campaign.

Battlefield 4 x86 Mode works in Multiplayer.

    I'm 100% SURE I have a 64 bit system.

    What happened...

  • So it is a start sweet now to find the full fix for you :womantongue:

To try to answer this for you Reg 64 bit....  To find this out, Click Start, right click on "Computer/ This PC for win8.1" and select "Properties". Under system type is should say "32-Bit Operating System" or "64-bit Operating System".

A few things to go over and sorry just want this fixed for you so make sure all this is 100% done please...

When you did the new install of BF4 did you delete the BF4 folder in my Documents first?

The reason for this and the steps...

    C:\Users\your PC Name\Documents\Battlefield 4

BF4 folder in my documents holds game configs and screen shots even if BF4 is installed on different drive. When you uninstall BF4 it does NOT remove this folder. So when you install the game again you can still have the same issues. Even if its not a new install it is still worth trying as the game cfg could be mucked up.

1- Go to my Documents and remove BF4 folder place it on your Desktop for now.
2- Be warned you do have to set up your in game settings again.
    3-Repair BF4
4- When done go test your game. If it fails reboot your PC and run repair game again and test BF4.

Next settings very important all are done to keep BF4 stable....

Do all settings posted below please..And you did but recheck them all again

    Run the game as Administrator:
Go to the Origin games folder (C:\Program Files (x64)\Origin Games\Battlefield 4) and find Bf4.exe. Right click it and go to PROPERTIES, then COMPATIBILITY and check the box next to RUN THIS PROGRAM AS ADMINISTRATOR.
Do the same with BF4_x86.exe as well.

    Run Origin as Administrator:
Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin and right click on Origin.exe and go to properties. Then go to compatibility tab and check the box next to RUN AS ADMIN.

    Disable Origin in game:
In Origin - Application settings - Origin in Game - disable Origin in game

Origin Cloud Storage turn it off
    Origin, settings, General

Make Sure BF4 is set to 64bit if your windows is 64bit
1- open origin and go to My Games
2-Right click BF4 and go to Game Properties
3-Under when launching this game set it to x64 and check off disable origin in game.
4- Hit apply REBOOT your PC and then test your BF4

Updates to keep BF4 stable this you did ...  DirectX, Microsoft C++, Microsoft .NET framework, Adobe Flash Player and punk buster

Now CC Cleaner run it again on the registry reboot PC do it again and keep doing this until it finds Zero issues. I run CC Cleaner every time I add or remove any program and I run it  once a week to just check my  registry.

I may edit this post again

Computer - Properties: Yes, it says 64 bit Operating System based on 64 bit Processor (My system is not in English so that's what it roughly translates into)

Delete Documents\Battlefield 4 and repair the game: That's what I did when you posted in #2, anyway, I did that again.

Run stuff as admin: Did all that.

    Disable Origin in game: Yep.

Origin Cloud Storage turn it off: Yep

    Updates to keep BF4 stable:

Last time I didn't install C++ Redist for x86, this time I installed that.

.NET Framework: Same as last time, the installer don't think I need to install it as it is integrated in the system

Adobe Flash Player: Same as last time, it prompts "Flash Player is automatically updated by Chrome"

    Punkbuster(pbsetup):  Updated the server version.

DirectX: Same as last time, "Up to date version detected, installation aborted"

Running BF4 Multiplayer in x64: Same problem.

Running BF4 Singleplayer in x64: Same problem.

Removing BFH Beta 2 Folder from my documents: Still doesn't work.

    Rebooting: Not working.

Removing Documents/Battlefield 4, running BF4 Singleplaer in x86, waited for 5 minutes: Memory usage went up to 102MB and stops.

    Trying to reproduce that: Failed.

Running BF4 Singleplayer offline in x64: BF4 Window pops up, black screen.

    Switching to x86: Everything works.

Though I can play the game now, I'm stuck with x86.

  • This could be the problem .....Adobe Flash Player: Same as last time, it prompts "Flash Player is automatically updated by Chrome".........

So like you I am on win8.1 and use chrome I just tested on this pc and when I update this PC with my link it downloads it and then I install it. So I need you to get this download and install it then reboot PC and test BF4  Adobe Flash Player update  http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

Please follow the the Black Screen Error

Latest version of DirectX see this page

    Flash Player updated.

    Reinstalled C++

    DirectX at newest version.

    Temp file deleted

    Clean Reboot

    Not working...

Since BF Harline is not far I'm okay with playing BF4 with x86 (The only problem being crashing every 30 minutes and the graphics is locked in low setting)

But I'm afraid that BF Hardline would be broken just like BF4 since they use the same engine.

  • Try this it has worked for others ....

Open up a Windows Explorer folder and navigate to C:\Program Files(x86)\Origin Games\Battlefield 4, and find a file called user.cfg and open it with Notepad.

    • Note if you do not have this file, you will be unable to perform this workaround.

Find and delete the line that reads UI.DrawEnable, then save and close your config and start your game and you should no longer be experiencing this crash.

Other then this for Video card you can try a different driver this way......

Video Card drivers and doing a clean install.Credit goes to aT1C for his steps

Note.. with the video card driver it installs so much junk :womanfrustrated: and some of it just makes issues so if you want it this is how I do my driver now as I have my BF fully stable and I want to keep it this way .

First I only install two things from it 1- Graphics Driver 2- PhysX System they can keep the rest :womanlol: See steps below.

This is how you do a clean graphic driver clean install:Credit goes to aT1C for his steps
Start by downloading your graphic card drivers from here,

    AMD; http://support.amd.com/en-us/download
    NVidia; http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

Download the one you have and save it on desktop, you are going to need it!
After downloading the video card driver follow these instructions to the letter,

    1- press windows button,

    2- right click my computer,

3- press property’s, you will get a new window here.

4- in the new window click device manger on your left side of the screen, you will get another new window here,

5- you will see in the latest window a list of devices you have in your computer, click on the arrow beside Display driver and a small fall down menu will show you what kind of graphic card you have.

6- left click on your (graphic card name) so it’s highlighted in blue,

7- right click (graphic card name) and press property’s, you will get a new small window here,

8- in the new small window click on Drivers, you will see the name between the tabs,

9- in the driver menu click on uninstall, you will now get a really small window that ask you if you’re really sure that you want to uninstall you’re graphic card drivers,

    10- click ok,

11- after you have uninstall you’re drivers restart you’re computer,

12- after you have started up your computer, click on your graphic card install file,

13- follow the instructions of your graphic card installer, Pick Custom / Advanced and only check off for Nvidia 1- Graphics Driver 2- PhysX System and for AMD card only check off display driver and catalyst control center.

14- when you have Install your graphic card drivers, restart / Reboot your computer,

    15- you’re done.

    I don't have the user.cfg file.

    Uninstalling Gefrorce Experience

    Uninstalled Driver

Choosen only Driver and PhysX when installing

BF4 x64 still does not work.

I don't think there anything else that can be done besides reinstalling Windows.

  • Give this a try first...

Go to my documents and  battlefield 4 folder delete it again then go to origin run repair game then go to update game and run update game when done test BF4

If this fails try this... Trying to save you a format lol

You may experience a black screen when launching Battlefield 4 while using the Windows Aero theme with DPI scaling set to 150% or 200%

And read this link it could well fix all this with the back screen

    http://help.ea.com/en/article/clearing-your-origin-temporary-files/

    That did something.

The BF4 windows now occasionally pops up after minutes of waiting with a loading screen (the hopping square at the top right corner) when joining a server, then "Joining Server..." will immediately change to "Cannot connect to EA online". And the loading screen will freeze after a few seconds.

Though it is still possible that all that didn't do anything because I was simply no patient enough to wait for 5 minutes before.

Singleplayer is still the same: not working at all.

Did the clear Origin temp files thing too, still the same.

  • Did you ever try the steps posted by Carbonic on page 2 if not I would do them next

  • AlyxMS's avatar

I didn't do that since my laptop is still pretty new. (bought it a few months ago).

Now I did it, there's no disk error.

I managed to get a infinite loading screen and 230MB of memory usage by setting bf4.exe to windows 7 compatibility mode.

    (With Origin Offline)

At this point I'm starting to speculate this is a x64 Runtime problem, I'm going to have a complete reinstall of  C++ and .NET

    No didn't work.

    BF4 + x64 + Compatibility Mode (Win7 or Vista, Win8 wouldn't do) + Origin Offline = 230MB Memory + Infinite loading

    BF4 + x64 + Compatibility Mode (Win7 or Vista, Win8 wouldn't do) + Origin Online = ~55MB Memory + Window Not showing up

    BF4 + x64 + Origin Online = ~55MB Memory + Window Not showing up

    BF4 + x64 + Origin Offline = ~55MB Memory + Black Window

    BF4 + x86 = Working BF4

  • Something is still messed up we have not found :womanfrustrated: The next thing I would try to save doing a format is get in touch with a EA game adviser to see if they have a idea on how to fix this fully as I feel like I have only helped you part way and this is not good enough as you need it 100% fixed. If they cant help then format but if you do this then run the windows scan again once all drivers are installed and once all windows updates are done. As a clean format is not always stable even when done correct.

They told me to do a thing called "DNS Flush"

    http://help.ea.com/en/article/how-to-flush-dns-cache-for-windows/

That required me to reboot the system and now BF4 is working.

But at the same time I installed something from windows update called

Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.2 Language Packs for Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2 for x64-based Systems (KB2938104)

    and

Update for Windows 8.1 for x64-based Systems (KB3006137)

I not sure which one did it but now it's fixed.

The confusing thing is I eliminated networks problem by going into offline mode yet at the same time I put system problem out of the equation as BF4 x64 was working a few weeks ago.

Anyway, thank you Zorlacc for your help and patience in the last few days.

    Cheers :D
