Hi EA, just following up on this post again.

  • By the way the file you made has some issues:

    • RenderDevice.ForceRenderAheadLimit does not exist in BF4; the value is called RenderDevice.RenderAheadLimit
    • Setting renderaheadlimit to 0 does not nesceserraly improve fps, it lowers latency. To improve fps try values between 1-3.
    • Setting all the individual motionblur options to 0 is unnesccesary when you disable it by using "WorldRender.MotionBlurEnable 0" anyway.

Thanks Prophticus, one of the things that really concerns me with these config files is that people will create them, put it online, download it and not knowing what it actualyl does.  For all that they know they may actually do something which is illegal in terms of the TOS.

My understanding of the TOS is that no files, including the user.cfg file may be edited unless it is edited by ingame settings which is what this post is all about.  In simplistic terms, can and should users be allowed to change these files using third party tools (like notepad).

I appreciate your response, it has been forwarded on to the specific clan member in question.

    Heya everyone,

We now have had more time to review this internally and would like to let you know that it is okay to edit this file.

For some of the changes it is probably best to test them via the in-game console first to see their effects.

In general, please note that you are editing at your own risk! Especially after any patch, you may want to revert back to default in case you notice any weirdness.

Propheticus already outlined some issues with the initial commands that are making their rounds, please understand that we cannot offer support on any of these, so when in doubt check with those knowledgeable members of the community that have been suggesting these changes in the first place.

    Cheers,

    Nils
