Re: Experiencing certificate issue logging into Battlelog via any pc web browser

Greetings,

It saddens me that I haven't received one response from anyone on this.

quick update and hopefully a little more details.

The only way I'm able to "clear" this issue is to reboot. on my initial start of the game battlelog opens seemingly without issue and I'm able to launch the game. IF I have to leave the game for any reason I am no longer able to relaunch and have to proceed to reboot to get it working again. Very inconvenient.

More details,

I've noticed in firefox having the debugging tools running that after a little while a message starts coming up in the console.

This site makes use of a SHA-1 Certificate; it's recommended you use certificates with signature algorithms that use hash functions stronger than SHA-1.[Learn More]

It seems to start in all.js then on to "bundle_base_bottombundles_438223020.js" then "fbds.js" something called "adsct" and then "tr" and lastly when I click launch campaign "173905134".

If there are some sort of logs and details I can provide to help out further please let me know OR at the very least let me know if this is being looked into.

Thank you kindly,

Adam

    Hey @Borsii,

Are you able to try in a different web browser to see if its the browser causing the issue?

I myself have been having lots of issues with Chrome and battlelog, so i use Firefox when i want to play. There's supposed to be an update for BF4 in September, so possibly this will be patched then since they do battlelog updates sometimes around the same time.

Give firefox a try, and let me know back in this thread if that has fixed this issue for now.

    Thanks!

    Hi @MorningTimeCloud,

Thank you for the response, really appreciate it.

I have tried all browsers. Initially I was using IE (latest ver.) then tried Chrome (latest ver. - but I know the plugin is no longer compatible) and the EA support tech who attempted to help me suggested I use Firefox (latest ver.) and have been since.

Unfortunately as soon as this issue presents itself it effects all browsers.

To explain in a little more detail.

From booting up my machine I can do one of these actions - either log into the battlelog directly from any browser or launch the game from Origin. But once I'm logged in and have closed the browser (lets say I was just checking stats) I cannot log back into it from any browser and am presented with the same error across the board and this lasts until I either reboot.

I've also noticed that if I play for a few hours the game itself seems to lose connection to the battlelog services and not track all my activity. I was playing the campaign for 2-3 hours and when I completed the game it didn't track the progress from the last two levels.

I know this stuff is stored locally as well so the next day when I logged in it synced up... but I suspect there is something going on overall between my machine and the battlelog.

Mind you, from any other computer that I DO NOT have battlefield or origin installed on I'm able to log into and out of over and over as much as I want...even on the same connection. This was also the case when I reinstalled everything on my machine, I had removed origin and battlefield to see if this resolved the issue.

When everything was uninstalled I could come and go as I wished in the battlelog, but once battlefield was installed I was SOL.

I would love to provide logs or any additional info, but I just need direction on where to obtain them.

    Thank you kindly,

    Adam

  • ... Also ....

Don't know if it's related, but...

I've noticed that the origin browser i.e. the "store" area within the origin application, that allows me to shop origin, is not seemingly timing out and providing me a message:

    "TEMPORARILY UNAVAILABLE

This action could not be complete. We may be experiencing an unusually high server load or undergoing maintenance. Please try again in a few minutes."

and this is periodically on load of the origin application.

Some times I'll just be on the home page reviewing the latest deal and then it will flash (I haven't done anything but use the scroll bar) and then present this error.

I have a feeling EA doesn't like me all that much.

Don't mean to post two potentially separate issues on one thread and will investigate this independently, but if potentially they are linked I'd rather share than not.

    Thank you kindly,

    Adam

  • Uhm, this is really strange. Are you using a proxy or an additional firewall/antivirus?

    Hi soldato_fantasma,

    Appreciate the reply.

    That's a big ol' negative.

    No proxy.

    No Antivirus.

No 3rd Party Firewall. Just the windows firewall and there is nothing in there that says block the service. Plus when I disable it nothing changes.

As stated in the initial post, I suspected maybe some malware was the culprit so I completely reinstalled/reformatted everything.

So this is a fresh Win 8.1 machine. Up to date with Windows Updates & Drivers. Nothing but Origin, BF4, Marvel Heroes, Portal (1&2), Xcom, Steam and most recently BF2 because I got so frustrated I went back to a game that didn't require Origin just to play some.

    Thank you kindly,

    Adam

  • Ok borsii, at first I tought that the problem was one of the following:

    Your modem or your router

    your ISP

but then I researched on the web and I found that this problem may be caused by an incorrect time on your pc, so the browser thinks that the certificate is expired because the date doesn't match.

So adjust the time, here is how to do it:

    • Press Windows key + D or navigate to the Windows desktop.
    • In the lower right-hand corner of the screen, click or tap the notification area where you see the time and date.
    • Select Change date and time settings... in the bottom of the window that appears (shown below).
    • In the Date and Time window, under the Date and Time tab, click the Change date and time... button.
    • Make your adjustments (you can find the correct date for your time zone here: http://www.timeanddate.com/ ) and click OK.
    • Click OK on the Date and Time window to save the changes.

Please report back if it works.

    Hi soldato_fantasma,

Funny you should mention time issues.

After reformatting my time was off... way off and preventing me from doing many things.

So I double checked my system time (BIOS) and my OS time to make sure everything was synced up.

At the moment my time is correct. I manually set it and then synced it with the standard internet time source.

The time on my PC is the same as my phone and my laptop.

My Router/Modem/ISP all work seemingly fine. I'm able to access the battlelog from any other device on my network, except on the machine that has battlefield 4 installed on it.

Almost tempted to preforms another reformat and start from scratch again.

    Thank you kindly,

    Adam

  • Ok. Have you also selected your time zone?

    Hi soldato_fantasma,

Indeed. I have it set to EST (-5) with the compensate for Day Light Saving Time checkbox marked.

My time settings look legitimate and correct.

    Thank you kindly,

  • Here is a little more info about the certificate that tries to load after I login to the battlelog...

    From Chrome:

    Certificate Information

This certificate is intended for the following purpose(s):

    • Ensures the identity of a remote computer
    • Proves your identity to a remote computer

*Refer to the certification authority's statement for details.

When the error presents itself, I'm getting a certificate used for the Jared Jewelery website and not something associated with EA.

When it does work, during the authentication hop I'm not able to capture which certificate is being presented.

All this breaks down after I put in my credentials on the EA login page and then I either get the error or it goes through.

Hope this additional info provides some insight.

    Thank you kindly,

    Adam

  • Under internet options\security what is your internet security zone set at in your browsers? This is for the IE browser. When you lower it do you still get the error? Can you add Battlelog to your browser as a "safe domain"?

    Hi ragnarok013,

    Thanks for the suggestion!

Initially IE was set to Medium, I turned off the security and added https://battlelog.battlefield.com to the safe domains and still got the same error.

    Sadly no go.

    Thank you kindly,

  • Hi, had the same issue yesterday, i found out it was caused by myself

In the past i had issue resolving the battlelog website so i put a static reference in my host file, i had the same issue as the thread starter tried everything and eventually found out i didn't edit the host file as i thought at the beginning of my troubleshooting 🙂

So please check here C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc open the host file with a notepad and paste the content here.

  • Hi Keldorn,

Appreciate the advice. Unfortunately my host file is clean. Nothing new in there than a default file.

    @all

I wanted to thank everyone for their help and assistance.

I don't know what changed or if something was fixed somewhere, but my service seems to be back to normal. I can come and go as I please from battlelog and I no longer receive any certificate errors. Wanted to give it a few days before declaring it fixed/resolved.

Sadly I can't provide a concrete solution for those who might be in the same boat because I don't know what's different now.

    Marking this as answered.

    Thank you kindly,

    Adam

    Hi CanadaSecurity,

To be honest, I didn't do anything. I find it is very temperamental and doesn't always work.

At the time I posted it was "solved" I was able to reliably login without issue and I didn't do anything different to "fix" it.

I'm sad to say that the service is back to its usual -original- error. I have not been able to play for the last week or so.

Even if I get to log in and try to launch a server something happens and it must time out because the game never launches when it says "loading server" and then when I refresh the browser to see if anything changes it logs me out and when I try to get back in the original error presents itself again.

I do apologize that I'm not much help at the moment. I wonder if I can "unslove" a post.

    Thank you kindly,

    Adam

  • @all,

The only difference right now is I can constantly and reliably login to battlelog without a certificate issue using Chrome and only Chrome... but the plugin to launch the game no longer works in Chrome. It's unsupported because it's using NPAPI. https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/6213033

Figured I'd add that two cents in.
