in my experience, these can also cause stuttering or laggy gameplay...
1) an overheating CPU or GPU due to too much dust buildup. trying using compressed air to dust off your heatsinks.
2) lack of RAM. BF3 plays fine with 4GB RAM. but some newer games, like BF4, need 8GB RAM to avoid stuttering. [note that to use more than 4GB RAM, you will need a 64 bit Windows.]
- Please check to ensure that the Origin in game overlay is not enabled (it is enabled by default) as it is known to cause stuttering and lag issues. If it is enabled disable it, play BF3 and see if the problem persists.
To turn off Origin in game log into Origin, in the upper left hand corner click on the word "Origin" in the menu, and then click on "Application Settings". Next go to the "Origin in game" tab and uncheck the "enable Origin in game" box
