The only way to upgrade from the standard versoin to the Premium version is to go into the Origin store and buy BF3 Premium (not the F3 Premium Edition).  Origin frequently has sales on BF3 Premium so if you have some patience you can get it at a greatly reduced price.

    Oh but doesn't the Premium version of the game include the base game which I already have? I was looking to be able to just get all the add-ons that come with premium...oh well I'll wait for a discount.

    The BF3 Premium Edition comes with the base BF3 game and the Premium DLC season pass.  It retails for around $40 USD.  If you already have BF3 I would just purchase Premium unless you can find the Premium Edition for a cheaper price at which time you would just redeem the premium code from the BF3 Premium edition.
