Re: Origin - backups

How to install BF3 from a backup:

1. Take a backup of the game folder in "Origin Games"
2. Find the computer/whatever you want to reinstall it on
3. Start Origin and download BF3 for a couple of minutes
4. Close Origin
5. Copy over the backup, overwriting all files.
6. Start Origin again, it will verify all the files and just adjust the registry and download the settings files.

  • Hi - just to let you know, this doesn't appear to be working.  Started to download at about 61%.  And backup should have been full copy of previous BF3 installation.

Can you confirm whether EA are currently looking into a proper solution to backup games so they can be restored with ease.

    Thanks.

Sorry it didn't work. I've used it myself a couple of times and to the many people in here I've told or seen it told to have it always worked. Perhaps you didn't have a full installation when you took your backup? Only some settings files and some registry stuff remains to be downloaded when you have the full Origin games folder and that doesn't even take up 1% of the total installation size.

  • Hi - as I install my games on a seperate partition to the OS, when I rebuild my PC, I only have to format the OS partition so I definitely had a full installation of BF3 with all the add-on packs.  Will try this method again with some of my other games installed under Origin to see if I can get this to work.

Just wanted to ask again, is EA at least intending to look at a backup option for origin?  Has this been suggested by others?  Are you allowed to talk about possible improvements to the Origin client?  I noticed that this question has not been answered and I've asked it twice now.

    Regards

I'm not from EA so don't know what EA plan to implement to the Origin client. All I know that they plan to expand the client, both in scope of features and to other platforms. Let me hear how it goes with the other games 🙂
