Re: [PS4] Main menu background constantly crashes into black screen & other issues

@headstrongjy

We want to make sure the game is working correctly on your system and it's unfortunate to hear it's the only game causing issues for you. Do you have plenty of available hard drive space on your system or is it maxed out? That can cause stress on the system when you're running the game for a while.

  • How long can you play until it crashes to a black screen?
  • Does it always happen in a specific mode at or a certain point of the game when you're doing something?
  • Is your Xbox plugged into the wall outlet or a power surge protector?
  • Are all the cables plugged into your system all the way?

I play on Xbox One as well and these steps below generally do the trick when it's crashing or dashboarding to the main menu. After these steps, you can always clear the saved data by going to My games & Apps>Highlight BF1>Press Start>Manage Game>Clear Saved Data.

Power Cycle the Console

  1. Turn off the Xbox One console by pressing the Xbox button on the front of the console for about 10 seconds until it shuts down completely.
  2. Unplug the console's power cable. Wait 10 seconds.

Important Be sure to wait 10 seconds. This step resets the power supply.

  1. Plug the console power cable back in.
  2. Press the Xbox button on your console to turn on the Xbox One.

Clear Mac Address

  1. Clear the MAC Address: From the Xbox dashboard select Settings>All Settings>Network>Network Settings>Advanced Settings>Alternate MAC address>Clear, then restart your Xbox.

This happens while in the main menu.....only the background changes to black every few seconds. Funny thing is i got online last night n tried sumthin which was my friend went into an operations match first so that i could try & join him & presto it let me in, i played the match out, backed out the game @ the end & everything went back to normal & stayed so for a couple hours UNTIL this one game every player in the lobby got kicked from the server & boom, my game went back to the black background again. I asked my buddy to join another operations match to see if by chance it would work/fix things again & wouldn't u know it, it actually worked! So i played a couple more hrs straight no problems, i went to try joining another lobby w/just the planes which i ended up alone, backed out & now its back to the black background again. I have done the clear reserved space & profile data too & hard reset xbox, and cleared MAC address and unistall/reinstall bf1. Its plugged directly into the wall, i have on average 467 mbps cable internet, game works completely normal when i sign in w/my daughters Xbox Live account. Only thing that works sometimes while the background changes black is the "favorite" which for me is conquest. Another thing that i discovered is after i clear reserved space & start bf1 i download the "update interface in order to play multiplayer" & I'll get this constant "connecting" but i can play campaign but when i quit bf1 & reload game & background does the black deal then i cant play campaign....it will go into the maps but kicks me straight to the main menu. When i try anything under quickmatch it kicks me to the main menu. This all started this past Friday...i was broadcasting on Mixer, my game froze after hitting start to track a medal, and only showing my blurred tank & area of the map i was in, couldnt see the start menu or all the normal stuf, its happened multiple times b4 but i already knew jus go back to home, quit bf1 & reload the game & never had a problem till now. So that's everything. Spent literally 12 hrs straight between on the phone w/EA, chat-texting w/Xbox support & the Xbox professional gamers one on one chat too, all multiple of times & then on here. I am at such a loss.

Does this happen if you use the server browser instead of quick match? We've seen some reports of this in the past but they were primarily for PC. If it doesn't happen when jump into a game from the server browser that might be the best option going forward. I know loading times can take a bit and experiencing like that can be a huge let down when you're playing with friends. It's terrible to hear you're going through this.

Well whenever i try to view server browser lobbies, i still get kicked back to the main menu. Even when i filter for only operations lobbies, it literally will not show me one lobby for operations, only conquest. And i search for operations lobbies in the past all the time like if its super late for my time & slower online cz i go for the operations pack. And there is ALWAYS some lobby going no matter what time it is when it comes to the maps that are for the operations campaign cz tons of others go for the same....the operations pack. Very rarely is there ever not a lobby of some sort so for the server browser to not show me one of those lobbies while this black background deal is going on is wrong to begin with. Basically the only way i can play is if I'm lucky when it puts me into a match through that favorite tab......or if a friend online....or i can clear reserved space, download that update, get the constant "connecting" and play campaign that way....not exactly what i had in mind when i spent 50-something dollars for premium barely 5 months ago especiallyif this is how my game gunna permanently be. Ya joining my friend fixed it for a bit but who knows how long that will last is what that ended up being. There has got to be a reason why & a permanent fix i would think & hope. All i have is EA games, don't know why, its ea that happens to make everything i love, lol. But this is certainly disappointing to say the least.

Do you know how to log in your router's admin settings to see if you are on an IPv6 network? (rather than IPv4)

It can help improve matchmaking and if you're able to get into games with your friend it's possible this is network related. We have others fix connectivity issues by changing their DNS like this discussion below.
