I like this idea because it involves bringing back commander mode and also how something like this would mean that squads are taking the orders given within the game seriously enough to carry them out. Which is why I also unfortunately do not see an idea like this working anywhere outside of servers where platoons are mostly playing. These kinds of ideas seems to be wasted in random matches in this series. I can already see a team that is struggling to maintain control of the objectives as people ignore them losing 8 players to special operations objectives that even if completed makes no impact on the match while the rest of the team is still doing nothing to maintain control of the regular objectives that are there.
This is one of the worst feelings when playing Battlefield to see your actions no matter how well your squad plays do nothing to bring the overall team closer to victory. It is the same reason why in Battlefield 1 that the behemoths typically had zero impact on the match as they were just another distraction given to a team that wasn't focused on the objective of the game mode to begin with. In a similar way the behemoth takes players away from objectives that were already being poorly contested by the team that received it.
For an idea like this to work, the people playing will have to * DICE has a system in place to motivate players to do that more than ever before. It is actually what this series needs more than anything else.
Edit: I think that anyone should be able to destroy the objective as in BF2. Respect for the chain of command should keep the other players away from that objective which is more realistic. Maybe there should be a point deduction for the squads that execute the special operations orders when they were not told to.
- 5 years ago@Skill4Reel Thanks for adding your thoughts! I agree with your assessment that in normal public lobbies you usually won't get great team coordination for an idea like this to really get maximum utilization. However, I think that same logic applies to just about every other team play mechanic that they have in the game, yet DICE still adds those mechanics so that the people that want to take advantage of them can do so. For instance in my experience, the commarose communication wheel is rarely used but it's awesome to have for those who enjoy using it. In BFV, the asset point system where a squad leader can call in artillery or a V2 rocket are rarely actually used but DICE kept them in because you will get the occasional squad that does utilize that feature effectively. I think a Spec Ops squad feature would fall into that category where, yeah, it probably won't always get used but when it does, it can have a massive affect on the direction of the battle. I'm of the mindset that it's usually not a bad idea to give players more options to play as a team, even if the options are seldomly utilized fully. As to your idea about all players being able to destroy objectives, I think maybe all players could be able to destroy enemy assets but the objectives wouldn't be marked on the map and you wouldn't get points for destroying them... And maybe it takes longer to destroy them than it would as a Spec Ops squad member. So only Spec Ops squads officially see the objectives, it's easier for them to destroy, and they get a generous amount of points for accomplishing the objectives.
