Text Chat not showing

For about a week now I've had problems with the ingame text chat not showing.  Its a bit sparadic but generally I see nothing at all, no admin messages (even ones I send myself via gcp) and no 12 year old yelling noob at each other.

I often have to quite and reload the game several time before they start to show.

I think I vaguely remember having to delete some document to fix this problem in bf3.. maybe I'm thinking about another game.

Anyone know a fix?
