It's generally because posts about an existing topic are often grouped together so the feedback is collected in one place, ensures that boards aren't cluttered with multiple posts about the same topic, and any updates are provided in a central location.
I remember that besides the megathread, there was another topic allowed by EA:

I think BF1 players need a separate petition topic now.
the purpose of the topic:
-restarting of the weekly scrap exchange update by the EA DICE
-restarting of the weekly game mode update by the EA DICE
-restarting of the update of Operation Campaigns by the EA DICE
Players could request updates with a comment like this, because it's a "official" petition by BF1 Community:
