well, i guess more RAM, 8GB should be enough and ofc a processor (4 core), if u change the processor u will also need to change your motherboard and reinstall the OP.
greetz
SSD to improve map/game loading if you don't have one already.

I agree on buying RAM, 8Gb should be just fine, but i dissagree on changing motherboard if you change procesor, if you wish to buy stronger processor, you can buy I5 procesor with same socket as your processor (quad core). If you have money and wish to further improve performance, you can buy SSD and put game and Origin on it.
Also, to be honest, your graphic card aint the best for games like battlefield.
You can see in this link performance of various graphic cards for battlefield 4So if you choose to buy new graphic card you can pick from the list.
I have ATI radeon HD7950 and i am playing on very high settings.
If i am you, i would buy more ram and better graphic card.
As the others said. Your CPU is bottle necking your system. Your graphics card can handle the game on medium/low settings. Also adding RAM to your system would be helpful. 4GB will work but only when there is nothing else running aside from origin and BF4. Which means you have to close your browser after joining a server. 8GB would be best.
The LGA775 socket your CPU is using is very old and doesn't support the newer i5 and i7 CPUs. You'd have to upgrade your motherboard if you want to upgrade your CPU. The best CPU for your current Motherboard is the Q9400 which will cost you at least 230€. You can get CPUs with 4 times better performance for the same price but they use a different socket.
I would recommend buying a LGA1150 mother board and a i7 Haswell CPU. The board would go for approx. 130-150€ and the CPU for 260-290€.
A better graphics card is something you should keep in mind. I would upgrade the graphics card later next year.I hope this helped.

LGA775 is only compatible with the newer Celeron, Pentium, Core and Core2 processors.
i would suggest to change CPU and ofc the motherboard.
what kind of RAm are u using?? DDR2 or DDR3??
if u are using DDR3 just add 4GB more.
the graficcard can handle BF4
