Definitely prefer the BF1/BFV system. Some tweaks would be appreciated though.
Both have their merits and their downsides. I would really like if BF6 had a hybrid system where vehicles spawning from main base can be chosen by the player but vehicles spawning at flags are fixed and spawn for anyone to take, enemy included.
BF4 system is good in the sense that it allows a better balance in maps. A team can't overload the map with a certain type of vehicle whether it benefits the team or becomes a detriment. It also allows teams fighting over a vehicle spawning flag to actually utilise those vehicles immediately instead of having to die to spawn it or have someone who has been sitting in the spawn screen for minutes jump on it without despite having done nothing for it. It also means the enemy can better deny that asset by stealing it.
Downside is that it sets a hard limit on what assets can be in play at once and if someone is hogging one of them and not really contributing to the team then that leaves a massive gap in your teams' capacity to push the enemy.
BF1 system is good in how it lets players play with whatever they want, whenever they want. It lets players more immediately fill a vehicle role that better counters the enemy at any given time. More so in BF1 than 5, it also allows friends/clans to choose the vehicle that is more suited to how they're playing. Got 3 or 4 players playing together? Mark IV tank is instantly made more effective. 2 players? A7V or St Chammond. Solo playing? Renault or one of the trucks.
Downside being that it generally limits how much vehicles can be on the map. Where BF3/4 could have 10+ ground vehicles per side, BF1 and 5 generally only had 2-4, even on the larger maps. Presumably for balance sake so you don't get an entire team of tiger tanks against an entire team who all decided to go MAA because the enemy had 4 fighers abusing rockets.

I'd rather be back to BF2 where 1-5 others would stand around a tank or plane, tho they should have different spots where you'll know where it spawn but the enemy won't so that they can just sit from away and camp the runway. - Trokey665 years agoSeasoned Ace

Both have rheir pros and * but this about covers it.

As a tanker or pilot my largest frustration in BF1 and BFV is to lose the slot I I was using before I was destroyed/shot down to some rando who lucked out on the spawn icons and clicked faster (or got the icon faster) when the next vehicle/plane spawn became available.
Losing the slot is much worse than dying (ingame)
BF4 spawn all the way, it reduces the interference from players who are not committed to the vehicle plane in question and would be just as happy as infantry.

Losing the slot does suck but if you are a dedicated pilot or dedicated tanker in BF1 for instance, you can usually get another vehicle by knowing the active vehicle count versus available vehicle count and watching the timer for when you know one will spawn. You can often get the same slot back if you watch the time from when you died as its about 2 minutes for the vehicle to respawn. Having to fight it out for tanks and planes BF4 style sounds like a pretty chaotic way to get a vehicle.
