I'm still playing the game. Have been off and on since it's released back in June 2005. I spent several years post release beta testing various mods and maps (mainly for the Mercenaries (Hayabusa), Marines (MadOsga) and MCC (several modders) mods. I'm about to help beta testing the latest Battlefield 2 mod Battlefield 1944 (Anthony, the guy responsible released Battlefield 1943 last year (Sept 20) that is once I get it working.
I consider Battlefield 2 as well as it's predecessors Battlefield Vietnam and 1942 some of the best FPS games ever released. I remember getting a demo of BF1942 and was blown away when I jumped into the Tobruk map and was able to jump into tanks, then bought the game the following day and played all of the maps Battle of Britain, Gazala, and Midway. Amazing game. Vietnam was an improvement on the game, tough there was no offshore shelling from the battleships, but you got to use the PBR (river boats), then Battlefield 2 was released with a new game engine, an amazing commander position where you could give orders to the squads that joined you in multiplayer etc, and more importantly, the modding community. One of the first modded maps (before they released the Navmeshing tools) was by a mapper/modder called Hayabusa, who reskinned Strike at Karkand and created a whole new map using the original navmesh and called it Karkand Rail Yard. He did the same with several o the others before the Navmesh tool was released.
This game deserves to be added back on Origin and should have server support from EA games. There are thousands of fans of this game who would dearly love to get back to the original game as well as an active modding community, that haven't stopped since post release 16 years ago. That says a lot about this game.

Commander mode....as long as you could find a place to hideI loved trying to scan the other enemy's Commander when I played Commander, just to try and hunt them down. Once I found out where they were I'd go on a full blown Special Forces mission out their way to knife them.
Good times.
