Why doesn't the Battlefield series have airports now

I imagine it's to avoid people being spawn camped. Dice brought back runways in BFV for the Pacific, and sometimes one side couldn't get any planes in the air as enemy pilots just circled them. There is a knock on effect too: if one side maintains air superiority like this, infantry get farmed by the planes. 

That said, it doesn't mean that Dice won't bring the back in the future. However, they would need to do something to avoid camping if they do, I think.
