Game crashes or gets stuck when joining multiplayer

Hello,

Alpha and Beta worked fine.  Got the new version and it has issues when trying to go to any Multiplayer game. It either crashes straight to desktop with no errors, or it gets to the server page and looks like it's loading, but never gets there.

I can play the campaign fine.

I followed this thread that had the same issue, but that fix didn't fix mine:  https://answers.ea.com/t5/Technical-Issues/The-game-closes-itself-when-joining-a-match/td-p/7185550

I have updated my Win 10 to the latest.

I have changed my audio settings to every conceivable variant and it doesn't do anything.  I've changed my video to Ultra as that worked for someone.    Nothing.

I tried all day today to make it work and had no luck.  I am starting my own thread as the other one is marked RESOLVED.

    Holy Cow!!!!!!!!!!!!!     It works!!!!!!!!!!

Was it the latest drivers from GeForce?

Was it the latest game patch?

Was it removing all traces of Origin and doing a fresh re-install?

Was it removing the Origin overlay?

Was it removing the GeForce overlay?

Was it removing the Discord overlay?

I have no idea which did it.....but it worked!!!!!!!!!!

    Thanks for all the help!

  • Heychadwick,  I was not able to play any single player or multiplayer, I think you may have something else going on.  I would look to see if your security software is blocking BF5, may just have to give it permission or  run it as administrator.  try to disable the in-game voip, and delete the BF5 folder in your documents.  If none of that works, read up about disabling the XMP profile in your bios settings.  I really hope this helps.

please try to switch over to DX11, if you have your DX12 enable.

    Best regards!

I tried the DX11 fix that everyone says to try for BF1.  I went into the PROSAVE_profile, but DX12 was already 0.

I don't think it's an issue with anything blocking BF5.  I understand why you think it might, but there are two ways the game fails.   The first is a dump to desktop that happens half the time.  The other is after it hits the server page....and then fails.  I don't think I would even get to the server page if it was a n/w block.

I have run as admin.  I have disabled VOIP in game.  I have deleted the BF5 folder.  Nothing works.

Yeah, I can't get this game to work.  It's been since Tuesday of last week.  Still zero progress.  I have no idea what to try at this point.  I am UTTERLY FRUSTRATED.  I've played through the solo games several times now.

    @heychadwick,

When you try to join Multiplayer, are you Quickmatching, or using Server Browser?

There are some known issues listed under PC and Servers:

    https://www.reddit.com/r/BattlefieldV/comments/9vclld/battlefield_vs_known_issues_list/

Have you tried any of these troubleshooting steps?

    - Clear Origin Cache: https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/faq/clear-cache-to-fix-problems-with-your-games/

    - Manually uninstall/reinstall Origin: https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/origin/origin/manually-uninstalling-origin/

    - Turning off Origin in-game Overlay in the Launcher, as well as Nvidia GeForce Overlay and Discord Overlay (if applicable)

    Thanks 🙂

Thanks for the response as it's the only one I got today.

The issue happens if I Quick Launch or if I pick from Server screen.   Half the time it crashes to desktop and the other it hangs once it gets to the server screen.  This makes me think it's not a connection issue, but I know some games are weird.

I looked at that reddit thread and there are a few things that seem like it could match for hanging on server screen, but not quite a perfect match.   Nothing talks about crashing to desktop.

I'll have to try those other steps, like clearing cache and turning off the Overlays.

    OK....manually uninstalled Origins.

    Reinstalled Origins.    Turned off Overlay

Turned off GeForce Overlay.   There are new drivers!!!!   I'm installing them.

My son has Discord on this box, so I am going to turn that off, too.

Gotta run off to Boy Scouts as I'm kind of in charge.   I'll have to try this when done.

    Hope it works!!!
