Game progression in Battlefield V is reset.

I bought it on Steam and have progressed to some extent with Battlefield V. I closed the game, finished what I had to do and tried to play the game again, only to find that I was on the initial brightness setting screen, I could get to the options in the middle of the OP, so I re-set my key bindings again and went to Comfort after the OP was over. Then I closed the game again because I had more work to do, and when I finished what I had to do and tried to play the game again, I was back at the initial brightness setting screen.

I took a chkdsk (using the /f command) in Steam file integrity and Windows, but it did not cure it.
This game is worse than Call of Duty. Even early Playstations should be able to save, but this game can't even save.

Putting aside the farce, how can I get out of this loop?
I have never encountered this situation in the sims or APEX Legends.
