Yeah I've had an HDR monitor for a few months now and I've noticed the same exact thing as the OP. I have a quite a few games that support HDR and they all some seems to, kind of work. Some are duller than others but when you mess with the Volume in Windows while in those games, the colors REALLY pop, and once that volume indicator goes away, it goes back to being dull.
I assume that this is just a Windows issue the needs to get fixed and I hope soon!! HDR seems to work fine every time in games like Forza titles but those are using UWP so I guess Microsoft made sure HDR was working there but for the "legacy" Windows fullscreen programs (games from like Steam), the HDR is a little iffy.

Hi i just got the asus rog swift pg27uq hdr and anthem game. i tried everything. colors are washed out in HDR mode on anthem. I have to press and hold the volum key up or down tto experience a very great colors. I spent the entire day trying to figure out how to solve this

Hi! I just got the PG35VQ and I have the exact same issue in both BF5 and AC:Odyssey. HDR doesn't work until the windows volume overlay is displayed., I've already spent 3 days searching for a solution and I couldn't find anything ☹️ I've tried all the workarounds suggested here but nothing worked. did you guys ever figure it out?
- 7 years ago@ElyshiaRivera Only fix that ever worked for me is to just go into Windows 10 Settings and turn HDR off.
