The game stutters any time I press a key

Using the keyboard causes the game to stutter. This never happened until a few days ago.

Most keys are affected, some only cause a stutter on press, some on release, some on both press and release. This includes keys not bound to any actions in-game. Typing in chat is also affected. Even in the main menu pressing random keys produces stutters. Pressing keys whilst alt-tabbed out of the game (in borderless mode) does not produce stutters. Restarting the game seems to slightly change which keys are affected or by how much. Raw mouse inputs are not affected.

Here is a short demonstration of the problem, with the in-game performance graph enabled: https://youtu.be/uzRvJ8LCeyk

I've been playing since launch on the same hardware and I've never experienced anything like this before. This issue cropped up in the last few days despite absolutely no changes on my end, though on the 11th of this month I received updates for the EA Desktop launcher and the EA Javelin anti-cheat.

When I played on the 10th this issue was definitely not present. I didn't play on the 11th and 12th but I still I launched the game to check some stuff in the main menu, and at the time for me this issue wasn't noticeable yet, if present at all.

Considering the nature of the problem I suspect there is something wrong with the recent anti-cheat update. Judging by user reports found online, both on these forums here and elsewhere, the issue seems to affect all Battlefield games protected by Javelin (confirmed on Battlefield 1, Battlefield V, and Battlefield 6).

I've tried disabling RivaTuner Statistics Server (RTSS) as suggested by some people and it reduced the severity of the stutters, but it did not get rid of them. I've also tried to power through the stutters and play for a few rounds to see if the issue would go away on its own, and so far the answer seems to be no. By the way my CPU is not maxing out when playing and I have GBs of RAM to spare.

Any help would be appreciated.

  • Its for a lot of people since the last update few days ago.
A patch will be deployed tomorrow for the stuttering issue.
Just hope it will be for the EA App, and not just Battlefield 6.

    Problem still present.

I've tried shutting down all unnecessary background programs—including my keyboard manufacturer's software—and disabling any overlays—including EA App's—and the stutters persist.

Looking around online I found this video which illustrates the same problem on BF6 and BF1, showing 100% CPU time from EAAntiCheat.GameService : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OPICmWgh0bU (from https://www.reddit.com/r/Battlefield/comments/1po3dj5/looks_like_the_eaanticheat_is_the_cause_of_mouse/ )

    Paging AntiCheatWard if possible.

Leaving this here for record's sake: today EA Desktop updated and it made no difference, the issue still persists, so I'm even more convinced it's an issue with Javelin.

  • its funny that i know some cheaters are playing the game right now unchallenged " like puten" .
the new anticheat is just messing with ordinary players.
EA is not addressing the issue so i don't think any fix is coming sadly.

Dude, forget it, they don't care. It's been a month, and no one has even responded.

My FPS also drops from 380 to 120 just when strafe left, it's terrifying. Holding down A or TAB even allows i get 40 FPS at 5090 + 14700 at 1080p, which is crazy.

Small indie companies are quick to resolve even the most minor issues, but here the game is completely unplayable and there's zero response. And yet the cheaters keep playing. I've already found several good games for myself, and I doubt I'll even return to BF with this attitude.

  • Its a keyboard conflict issue. For me, the game tanks fps whenever i only hold one key down, if you have the same problem as i do, then the alt fix should work. However, if  holding alt down only also triggers the fps drop, i guess alt itself is also subject to this conflict. My workaround is to use a logitech mouse macro to hold down a random key on the numpad, which completely solved the issue for me, i assume that because the key is not actually "pressed down" (i have no idea why it will cancel the bug in that case tho) it wont trigger the bug on its own.

Anyways, my account got banned on the 9th for "enhancing gameplay"(which is **bleep**, and i also dont think its due to the macro, since EA doesnt ban Logitech/razer macros), so i dunno how the situation is right now.

Javelin was just updated (first patch in 5 weeks since this bug emerged) and the situation seems to have improved significantly, though I wouldn't consider it completely solved yet.

Certain keys still cause a stutter when pressed, but now the stutters are less severe than before and they seem to only occur on the first key press. In other words, from my very limited testing once a key has caused a stutter it no longer does for the rest of the session.

This was on BF1 and BFV, using Windows 10 with RivaTuner Statistics Server 7.3.7 running.
